He had a good month at the best time of year to have one. Besides that he's a little above a decent QB. Laugh all you want. I have a feeling he will never go down as a great and he's being paid a lot of money. If you're happy as a Giants fan that's all that matters. I was just voicing my opinion that his career numbers don't even approach good and he is overpaid.

He might not have the best numbers every year, but he'll put the Giants in the position to win every year. And I think his numbers will continue to go up. I can't think of many QB's I'd rather have over Eli right now, honestly.

We get that you like him and of course you should. But his output doesn't backup the amount of cash he will recieve, hence he is overpaid. But, there aren't that many big trades in the NFL so your argument is correct that without him they would be in a horribel QB situation, hence they had to pay him.

 

P.S. This is coming from someone who dislikes all Mannings.

 

His output equals 4 straight playoff appearances, 2 NFC East championships an NFC Championship and a Super bowl championship in 4 years as a starter. It's not all about stats.

Oh and in the last 4 years as a full time starter, the Giants record is 41-23 (not counting playoffs). I believe including playoffs it would be 45-26.

There isn't any doubt that Eli isn't always given enough credit for where he has led the Giants (from myself included)....but I'm not sure if he should be the highest player in the NFL. He certainly isn't the best player in the NFL. One could argue that he fits in with the team better than any other QB, but technically wouldn't that just mean that the offers he is getting from other teams are lower?

This is crazy there is no way he is better than his brother. He had a good game in the Super Bowl but it was the defense of the Giants that won that Super Bowl. Sure I know everyone is going to say who made the game winning drive in the last couple of minutes, and yes it was Eli, but had the defense not played so well the whole game they would have never been in the game. Bottom line is there is no way he should be making more money than Peyton.

If they could have gotten him for less, they would have. I trust Jerry Reese (the Giants GM). He's proven to me already that he knows what he is doing.

When quarterback Eli Manning's new contract was inked on Wednesday, the deal was heralded as having the highest multi-year average in the NFL.

 

The only problem? It isn't.

 

Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer earns an average of $16,166,667 per year on a contract that was signed in December 2005.

 

Manning's average, based on the seven-year, $106.9 million deal, is only $15.2 million.

 

In all fairness, the six-year, $97.5 million extension has an average value of $16,166,667 million. But the six years of new money is added to the remaining season of $9.4 million in base salary in calculating the total average.

 

Meanwhile (and we'll address this in more detail later), the talk regarding the average annual value of the contract overlooks the fact that Manning's guaranteed money really isn't as jaw dropping as it could have been.

 

So maybe he didn't get overpaid after all, because maybe the deal doesn't represent the cutting edge contract that it was made out to be.

If you can't be civil I'll play your game. I'll make a friendly wager w/ you that in the next 7 years they don't win 8 playoff games. Bringing Carson's contract into this doesn't prove anything. They have an idiot for an owner and they wouldn't sell tickets if they didn't keep him.

4-0 one year and 0-3 the other 3 years. He got hot for a month and turned it into a good pay day. Good for him, bad for the future of the team IMO. Dallas, Philly, and Wash fans are happier today than Giants fans should be.
