It’s sad that the image of America’s pastime has sunk to a level that “baseball purists” are chided because we prefer the game be played cleanly, without cheating – be it illegal drugs, corked bats, scuffed balls, or gambling. Because some players in the past took amphetamines or cheated, this is a open license for any current/future player to cheat? PED’s are illegal because if not closely used under doctor supervision they can have very serious consequences. Lyle Alzado’s family would know. It also sends a scary message to all young baseball players – put whatever you want into your body to improve yourself, don’t worry about any consequences other than the changes it will accomplish on the field, there’s always an easier route than plain hard work, rules/laws don’t matter, and the ends always justify the means.

If you view all forms of cheating in the same light and demand that players like Goose are removed from the HOF then fine.

If you are betting for your team to lose, then gambling is by far the worst crime in baseball. However, if you are betting on your team to win, then, IMO, its next to nothing

Only if someone bet on their team to win every single day that they were gambling and never missed a game. Even then, I don't think MLB would agree with you.

Taking steroids by a large large portion. If any of the players who used steroids get in the hall of fame, Pete should get in as a player, nothing to do with his managing.

To be honest, I can't convince myself that everyone wasn't on something at one time or another, except for Sean Casey.

My point is, if they hit 60-70 HR's on a good team they would've gained much, much more. But, they still broke records in a sport that takes it stats very seriously.

Exactly. Records are everything, and if Bonds gets in for cheating and breaking the HR record, then Rose should get in for breaking the all time hits record, and cheating after. Rose's cheating, if you want to call it that, did nothing to help him get that record.

No, but how do you know Rose wasn't popping greenies to play more games to get more hits?

Then who is to say Hank Aaron didn't or Babe Ruth didn't or Cy Young or any of the other baseball greats? Not a good argument imo.

Bull. Do you think any supplement makes that big of a difference? Heck no but it's still a multi billion dollar industry. I think PED's would make a huge impact in football and even basketball. But I'm just not buying the case in baseball.

With out PED's 335 flyout to the warning track.

With PED's 345 Home Run to the 4th row.

Baseball after all is a game of inches too.

Put me in the camp that thinks gambling is way worse than PED's. I am one of the ones who think they should be legal. It was said in an earlier post that gambling affects the outcome of the game in wins and losses and used the 1919 World Series as an example. PED's are people trying to win and make themselves and their team better. PED's made baseball exciting, now without PED's, all we talk about is football.

It may be wrong, but that's the way I feel. I can honestly say I would seriously think about taking them if I was an MLB player.

I would never even considering gambling on my team.

You just made my point. How do you know those guys didn't do them? What makes steriods & HGH any worse then amphetamines? They are all PED's.

Prove it.

Would you guys that think PED's should be allowed also be in favor of letting players use cocaine or heroin or LSD or any other drug they wanted in the name of "improving their performance" and bettering the game?

How would any of those drugs improve performance? HGH and steriods a perscribed by dr every day. When's the last time a dr perscribed LSD?

Fine, delete LSD and even heroin, for that matter. I assure you cocaine could improve the performance of some players. I've seen some very, very high-functioning cocaine users.

No issues with it at all.
