This may shock some...but I can buy that. I think it would be foolish to say that in a "butterfly effect" way mine haven't been shaped by religion. Though there may be some countries where this isn't true...in the good ol U S of A it is definitely true.

 

If hypothetically we were able to complete rid the world of religion would we revert back to a wild state?

These are thoughts that have been spread out over a long period of time and due to procrastination are now getting posted. I fear that if I spread them out they may never see the light.

I think I'm the first college student/teen ever to call his boss and complain about NOT having enough work to do, but that was Wednesday and it was to no avail.

That's my point. Who knows what we'd be like in a world where religion had never existed?

 

Any answer would just a be guess on my part.

If we lived in a world with no religion I guess we would just find something else to argue about and justify ourselves over others.

Any code of conduct needs some standard against which to judge if any action is right or wrong. Unless and until a particular standard can be proven beyond any doubt that it is the standard, any standard that is adopted is adopted as a matter of faith and not science. Therefore, any and all moralities are based on faith.

I believed strongly through most of my life that religion played a viable part in morality of a society.

 

Living in an area that probably has the highest churches per capita you would think that would show strongly. It appears that the modern view is that we are saved by Christ so we can do anything and be forgiven. I have lost all faith of the church benefitting morality for the good of society. I have been denied employment in part, because I was not involved in the church. I have been denied access to church facilities because I called out a member on serious moral issues (involving a very young minor}. I have the greatest appreciation for those that live the creed, but I question whether the churches have lost there credibility to society.

One can certainly have morals without RELIGION. However, one cannot have morals without GOD. GOD created us, and there are certain truths that he created us with. It is why you know, as an infant, that breaking something or hitting someone is inherently wrong. I can't explain it, and behavioral scientists have not been able to, either.

 

You most also separate His truths that we all have from the myriad of environmental and legal morals and ethics that Man has created for himself.
