Having seen them both play, Sandfoss looked a little stronger than the HHS point guard. Just the speed difference seperates the players. In no way is this a dig on the Highlands point guard, she is a fine player!

She hasn't played with that group for a couple of years.

The top two are Sandfoss and Moss, not even close.

 

No guard can defend Courtney without a lot help. She is so much faster and quicker than any guard in the region. She is also the best defender in the region(regardless of position) she can lock down any guard. She is almost a one player full-court press. She can get to the rim easy and quicker than anyone. Great at finishing and drawing fouls. Very mentally tough.

 

Moss, the most physically talented hands down of anyone in the region. There is not one player that comes close to matching up with her.

 

IMO, the faster player in the 9th region (with or without the ball) is Heather Sandlin of Boone. They are both very fast, but Sandlin is blazing fast.

 

As far as defense goes (and not to take anything away from the other girls in the region), Beasley from Conner usually guards the opponents top scorer (unless it's a 4 or 5), and typically holds them below their average. She obviously gets help from the other 4 on the floor, but I believe she should be mentioned in that group.

 

Also remember, Beasley and Sandlin helped guide their respective teams to 9th region titles.

Sandlin was obviously one of the keys for Boone County in their run to the Region title last year, but she didn't play the point. That role, and the true leadership role for Boone, was filled by Jacy Bradley.

 

I do agree with you about Sandlin's speed. She can simply fly!

Ms. Hughes from Holmes has to be considered one of the best point guards in the region and as far as speed she is one of the quickest if not the quickest.

Speaking of Ms. Towles, it is my understanding that she may again be taking up another sport in the fall. Anybody have anything to offer on this?

 

Is she getting any looks from D1 or D2 schools? If so, who might some of those schools be.

 

Don't know about looks but I think she had some really fine games this last week when I watched her in Mason and Lexington. As did Allen.

That defense run of SK has been the mold to break for PG's in the area over the last few seasons. If you were a PG that maintained your season average against them you may be up one on the others.

Very good defense, but your comment "just about every PG"...is accurate. Parents and over-the-top fans see a totally different game. Coach Stowers is the #1 source to ask about which teams, players, and in this case, PG's he has had the most difficulty with over the past few years.

I'm pretty sure Long (Conner) is a 2 guard and Beasley ran the point for the last two years (until her surger).

Have you seen the other girls play? Boone County's guards destroyed Sanfross during the season, can't count when she had the broken hand! Courtney is a great player but their are other guards just as talented! I would say she will be in the top 10 maybe in DivIII but certainly not regardless of class. This is no means a negative to her but she is just not at that level.
