June 29, 200917 yr Found this article on CBS Sports. You will scan my annual list of the top 50 NFL players in hopes of finding your favorite players, and then it will happen, coming on like a bad cold. The rage will fill your entire body, the heat building inside like a small inferno. You will curse. You will use my name in vain. You will hate me. You will wonder how I got my job. You will wonder if my father is the head of CBS. And then you will vent. I'm ready. Give it to me, because unlike a lot of scouts and football writers, I stand by my convictions http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11892651
June 29, 200917 yr 5 Canes on that list so it looks good to me. Actually, alot of these are a little over the top. I love Andre Johnson, but better than Fitzgerald? Kurt Warner below Carson Palmer?
June 29, 200917 yr I think I'd take Haynesworth or Ed Reed over Jared Allen and perhaps that CB from the Raiders (although I won't say I'm a big time Raiders follower).

June 29, 200917 yr AJ is hands down the best in the game IMO. The most consistent WR. His play is unmatched!
June 29, 200917 yr That would be really hard to do...rank the 50 best players in the league, all positions included. I can't knock the list because I can't even think of all the guys who need to be considered. I'd have Brady at the top. I'd have Fitzgerald as the top WR at this point...he and Johnson stack up pretty even if you look at the stats, but Fitzgerald's monster playoff run was too good to ignore. Johnson played 16 games and had 115 catches for 1575 yards (13.7 ypc) and 8 TD. Fitzgerald also played 16 games and had 96 catches for 1431 yards (14.9 ypc) and 12 TD. However, Fitzgerald's playoff stats are insane for a WR. 4 Games 30 Receptions 546 Yards (18.2 ypc) 7 TD If you projected that over a 16 game season...120 catches, 2184 yards, 28 TD. Against playoff competition knowing they have to stop him...Boldin wasn't 100% and missed one of those games, so he wasn't taking the pressure away like he could in normal conditions. Ed Reed would be the first defensive player on my list.

I know that they have no running game, but, IMO, defenses focus more on the pass when facing Houston as well. But his playoff numbers are absurd. Troy Polamalu at 36 is crazy to me. Too high? Too low? Not sure about Spikes, but I'd say Polamalu deserves to be rated ahead of a lot of the guys ahead of him, and I hate the Steelers. Edited June 29, 200917 yr by cch5432
June 29, 200917 yr Author Too high? Too low? If it were me I'd have Polamalu in my top 8. He's the second best defensive player in the NFL
June 29, 200917 yr I think I'd take Fitz too, but he does have Boldin to take a bit of pressure off. I know that they have no running game, but neither does AJ. But his playoff numbers are absurd. Not sure about Spikes, but I'd say Polamalu deserves to be rated ahead of a lot of the guys ahead of him, and I hate the Steelers. Houston was 13th in rushing yards last year...while Arizona was dead last. I would say that there is actually quite a bit of difference between there running games, if you are going to count Boldin against Fitz then Johnson should have Slaton and the rest of the running game counted against him.
June 29, 200917 yr Author I'll take Fitz, AJ, Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne and Boldin. Probably in that order.

The major difference is that AJ doesn't have a pro-bowl wideout opposite him like Fitz does, and he doesn't have a HOF'er throwing him the ball. Polamalu is good, but let's not kid ourselves. There are a good 5 or so defensive guys that have to rate ahead of him.

I hate the Steelers and really Polamalu, but I can't deny that he's the the best. And when healthy I'll take Shawne Merriman over DeMarcus Ware as well. That guy had Ware 4th I think.
