Matt Jones is really hyping this idea quite a bit. Do you think he should be offered the open scholarship?

Why? To sit on the bench? I appreciate his effort on the floor, but why would he ?

Exactly... He wouldn't play.

Yeah, I don't agree with the idea of giving it to him just to give it to someone..Cal is trying to build a top team and sometimes that requires tough decisions. Porter knew what was coming and he left on his own. Why have Porter as the 3rd PG on the team? Doesn't make sense to give it to someone that isn't going to play any.

Extra scholarship available, plus he will be gone next year so it will still be available next year, why waste it.

However, wasn't it Porter's decision to leave, therefore, why would he care if there was a scholarship open because supposedly he didn't leave to open up a scholarship for another player, besides on another note didn't he already graduate early?

He's already graduated and he has a baby on the way--why would he want to come back? It sounds like real life is calling him pretty strongly.

He wouldn't get PG minutes...his minutes would come at SG.

Not saying these are right or something I agree with, but here are a few:

1. Not for sure if he actually wanted to leave.

2. He can work towards a higher degree for free which will better support his family in the long run.

3. Go out a winner.

Porter as a SG? :ohbrother:

He can do that without being on the basketball team as well. :thumb:

That's what he trained for last off season, under the assumption that Liggins or Galloway could handle the PG spot. That didn't happen so he ended up being the best option at PG.

Last year he shot 33% from 3, and was (a distant) second in total made 3s behind Jodie.

And that was while logging nearly all his minutes playing the point.

With Jodie's departure, he'd be more likely to see time at the 2 than behind Wall and Bledsoe at the point.

For free?

Not without another type of scholarship.
For free?

Yep...It's called "Grant Research" and every university has some type of it. They will pay for your masters degree if you help them on some sort of research project they have..

Also, if you are employed with a full-time job many employers will offer to help pay some, or all, of your masters degree.

Not without another type of scholarship.

Why can't he do that then? Why is it up to the basketball team to give him a scholarship?
