I actually don't even like Favre and am nowhere close to a fan. I just think he gets a raw deal b/c GB forced him to make a decision 3 months before he wanted to. That franchise was at the bottom before he became their starter. They knew he wasn't going to be ready when they wanted his decision. I think he should have retired after that, but I'm not here to tell him what to do. It's impossible to argue that he had a very good year his last year in GB though.

 

Is Jordan's legacy as a player tarnished for playing in Washington? I think it's funny that millions of peole w/ no talent get to tell a guy when he should hang it up. Why should he care what those people think? I'm still a firm believer that he wants to retire until he gets home and sees his honey do list from his wife.

 

 

I think GB looked right when Aaron Rogers had a great year last year. For me, when Aaron Rodgers is far and away the qb you would use on your fantasy team, then yeah, GB did the right thing.

 

As far as Jordan, I say his legacy is tarnished just a little, but everyone conveniently forgets to mention that when talking about MJ. I am an unabashed MJ hater so when I say his legacy is tarnished, people will say I am hating and they could be right, but he came back to play in Washington because he believed that he had the ability to make that franchise a winner and he couldn't. I hope, wish and pray I don't have to watch Kobe go to the Bobcats when he is 37 years old because he has those same kind of feelings.

 

 

Your last line has a lot of truth to it. I also think that competitors like MJ and Brett and ultimately Kobe have a hard time letting go. They have been competing so hard for so long, they simply don't know what else to do in life. Even Magic couldn't completely let go. I worry that Kobe will have the same problem.

Do people forget that he wat the biggest cry baby in the league before Memphis (Jerry West) bailed out that Lakers and gave them Gasol for pennies on the dollar? First he cried and demanded to be traded. Then he threw a young Bynum under the bus. Not to mention he tanked a series against the Suns a few years ago all while whining and crying the entire time. He's an all time great, but he is one of the least likeable all time greats. I hope he stays in LA b/c he loves the attention and they give him a chance to win. Not b/c of his legacy.

 

Kobe did all of this, sure. Jordan was a terrible teammate as well but you don't hear that often. Him being the least likable may have to do with how much media the NBA gets now. Most people would have always like Magic because of his personality, but who knows how others would have been perceived. Jordan was probably the coolest player of all-time, so I still think he would have been as popular, I just think the haters would have gotten louder.

 

Yep and he deserves all of them. He's a great player. Probably one of the 5 greatest. It doesn't change the fact that he tanked a series, asked for a trade, tried getting Bynum traded for Kidd, and got bailed out by the Gasol trade. He thought he was good enough on his own to win one and he finally figured out that wasn't the case. That isn't hating. It's the truth.

 

I think that is really the theme of this post season. Teamwork.

That does have to be part of the equation. But, not all of it.

 

Actually I mentioned that he was top 5 of all time. You won't look at the bad ones though. How many top 5 superstars have had bad "moments" like that? I would say the worst moment of his career was the felony trial by the way. And running Shaq out of town wasn't a good idea.

Kobe will retire a Laker IMO. In Kobe's career the Lakers have narrowed the gap between themselves and the Celtics for all-time titles, that is important in LaLa Land.

 

As for Kobe's career, I feel that his evolution this season puts him at 7th all-time in terms of best players to play in the NBA. I still have to take MJ, Oscar, Russell, Wilt, Magic, and Kareem over him, but I could be persuaded to put him past Kareem when his career is over. I don't really know who I could take out of that top 5 to put him in there though. For the record, Kobe breaking in there for me has little to do with the actual achievement of winning a title this season.

 

The evolution we saw from Kobe wasn't 33 PPG or whatever he scored, it was the assist. He set up teammates for big shots, and made this a team victory. A 50 point Kobe is an easy Lakers team to beat, a 30 point Kobe that is having 6 or 7 big assist is really tough.

 

With all that said, I can't leave this response without saying this. Isn't it ironic that to win a title Kobe had to play a little more like LeBron? Kobe as a playmaker made the Lakers unstoppable. Sure he had his moments (game 3), but for the most part he was taking what the Magic gave him and making the right plays. As for the above, though I have Kobe ranked 7th on my all-time list I still think LeBron is the better player. That debate will go on for the next two years or so, or until LeBron can win a title, but I really don't think it's that close. I'm not hating either, Kobe is a fabulous player, I just think LeBron brings alot more to the overall game, the kind of player who can absolutely dominate you but only have 18 points.

I tried to tell you that Kobe was a playmaker but for that to be seen his teammates had to take and make the shots. It looks like they have finally figured out to keep at least one eye on him when he rises to shoot because they all did a great job of catching that pass he would make at the last second when he rises for a jumper. That play going for 2 or 3 points instead of a turnover has made a huge difference in his playmaking abilities.
