Everyone was aware of this situation at Memphis and the NCAA has cleared Calipari.

 

There have been whispers and speculation about him long before this, but to date, the NCAA has yet to nail him for anything. You can look at it two ways I suppose...dwell on the speculation, or wonder how on earth a cheating coach could come out of these situations completely cleared by the NCAA.

 

As I said in a different thread, this stuff is always lurking in the back of your mind and cause for some concern, but what are we supposed to do? Treat him as if he's guilty and demand a new coach?

 

To say the honeymoon is over just seems a bit much at this point. I'm on board with Calipari until he's implicated or he gets UK in big trouble. I choose to enjoy the ride rather than be a pessimist and anxiously wait for the hammer to drop. If it does, it does. Everyone is aware of the speculation about him.

 

If you guys want to wait until something bad happens so you can say, "I told you so." That's fine. I won't lose any sleep either way.

The roller coaster comment had to do with the plight of some of my fellow fans, unrealistically high yesterday, unrealistically low today. Case in point, this thread. And the comment was meant tongue-in-cheek (I need to find a smiley for that.), because, in reality, I really enjoy watching the circus.

 

But seriously ... Come on, Cal was the same coach 2 years ago, and everybody was going ape over BCG. Now, John is some kind of god?

What I perceive as the overreaction to his hire, and it is my perception, happened way before the recuiting class was signed. It amazes me how many (not just here, but on CP) already think just making the Sweet 16 next year will be a disappointing season. I love optimism, but to me that is an overreaction. There is nothing wrong with that. Each to his own. I'm just watching the dog and pony show.

As for myself, I have never gotten too excited over media hype and potential. I like the Calipari hire, but until he and his fantastic recruits win games, I will not get all ramped up. Same goes for the NCAA investigation. From what I've read, Cal is not involved and is just part of the investigation; therefore, it's a non-issue. Again, no reason to get excited.

 

The bottom line is I enjoy winning and get excited about it. If they make it to the Final Four, or even win the SEC this coming season, I'll be cranked. However, I don't tie my goat to that post. The Cats losing has never bummed me out or made me mad. It's entertainment, pure and simple. The best part about watching this all unfold, though, is that, win, lose or draw, I still get entertained. :thumb:

Because the last two programs he has left in college have been in trouble for NCAA violations. If you want to believe he had no knowledge of the situations you are very naive. I guess you also believe that Eddie Sutton had no knowledge of the violations at UK during his tenure and that Dwayne Casey was just a rogue Asstant coach since Eddie was cleared of any wrong doing. I guess coach Cal never flew with the players and never thought to question why Rose's Brother was on the plane. Thats right he had no knowledge he wasnt paying. Coach Call will win and win big at UK. Just wondering if the NCAA will be in town when he leaves like his other two stops.

 

Whether Calipari had any knowledge is irrelevant. The fact that the NCAA says he has no knowledge, that's what matters.
