Raceland often has foreign exchange students, Sebastian Johannson was one of those such students. Sebastian came to Raceland after playing football in his home county of Sweden, he also played for the Swedish National Team, and had proved himself to be a very capable football player. After coming to Raceland for his Junior year, he wanted to play football in the United States, and of course, Raceland took him on the team as one of their own. Sebastian quickly worked himself into a major role on the Raceland Football Team, and worked himself into the hearts of the Raceland Family.

 

Several other exchange students have been part of one of the athletic teams at Raceland, but Sebastian was more then part of the team, he became one of our children and shared in everything that the other players, parents, and fans shared in. He was part of a special Raceland team that held a record of 12-1 (the best record in school history), an undefeated regular season, was District Champions, EKC Champions, and he was part of a team that will be remembered for quite some time in Raceland.

 

Sebastian also became a valuable part of the Raceland Track Team and qualified for the State Track Meet in the Shot Put.

 

Sebastian flew home on Saturday and will be missed in Raceland, he has a great personality, easy to get a long with, and will excel in anything that he does. We will miss him. But, don't be surprised if you have an opportunity to see him play in the United States again soon. He will be traveling to the United States next month to play as part of the Swedish National team. And he has an excellent chance to play Division I football in the United States, as he has said is a dream of his.

A little FYI about the pictures Ram posted for me. I took these at a reception we had for Sebastian on Friday May 22, 2009. He had to leave Saturday morning at 7 am to return to Sweden. I received an e-mail from him last night letting me know he was home safe and already missed everyone here in his "second family". He signed off by saying, "I love ya'll". I guess we left an impression on him.:lol:

 

On a second note, I wish he could have participated in the Track and Field State competition. He had the longest throw in Shot Put this year in 1A and had a great chance to win the State Title.

I would like to add a funny story on Sebastian. During our first game with LCA back in September 2008, he was upset with a LCA player for something that happened on the field of play. He came to the sideline and was cursing at the player on the field. I told him he could not do that and if the official heard him they would throw the flag for unsportsmanlike conduct and he might get ejected. Someone quickly told him to cuss in his native tongue and that way no one would know what he was saying and there couldn't be a penalty. It worked and there was no penalty. Everyone got a big laugh at what he did.

Great pics doc and thanks for posting this Ram. I had heard some time ago that he would be returning. I was just somehow hoping that he would be able to stay. At Raceland a kid becomes family, that is what imo seperates Raceland from some other places. I hate losing Sebastian and wish this fine young man nothing but the best. I also echo our famous Raceland slogan.....
