Final after 8 innings. Connor went the entire way for NCC while Etschid picks up the loss in relief.

Linescore:

NCC 0 0 1 1 0 0 2 4 = 8 11 4

Ryle 2 0 1 1 0 0 0 3 = 7 8 2

It was a sloppy yet very exciting game to watch. Hats off to NCC for staying with things and not giving up when they were down to their last out in the top of the 7th. Also hats off to Ryle for clawing their way back into it in the bottom of the 8th after falling behind by four.

I believe that Ryle's first 3 runs were unearned and NC's last 5 runs were unearned. It was exciting in spite of the miscues, but it probably was not real easy to throw the wet ball around the field. It is unusual to be able to play baseball when the ball is wet the whole game and I would attribute many of the errors to the unique wet ball situation. NO way the games were played in Florence today without synthetic turf. Had to be a heartbreaking loss for the Raiders after controlling the whole game until that fatal first error with 2 outs in the top of the 7th. Ryle had turned some very nice DP's in the poor conditions. Great job by both teams of hustling and battling the whole way. Very entertaining h.s. baseball game. Good luck to the Breds. They are really gonna need it vs. CovCath.

Hard to believe both Ryle and Boone are out. IMO both are deserving of being there. (not possible because of the district)

That's why you've gotta take care of business in those disctrict seeding games. Those are the only one's that matter during the regular season.

The wet turf and ball were very much a factor and both all pitchers deserve credit for dealing with the tuff situation. The errors where many and the wet conditions contributed to most if not all. Connor's clutch hit to drive in the go ahead run turned it around for NCC. Meyer from Ryle was terrific behind the plate tonight!

Is Coach Roessel(SP?) kicking himself for not throwing Etschid from the start?

Roesel's decision was very sound. Two late-inning errors doomed Ryle. NC did not hit the ball hard off Etscheid. Etscheid would have been Ryle's best chance to hang in with CC. The other Ryle pitchers threw well enough to win. Ryle played GREAT defense until the last 4 outs were needed.

You can't second guess Coach Roesel. Ryle pitchers did a great job and could of easily won that game had it not been for a few miscues. NCC battled their way back and then held off a big 8th inning rally from Ryle. The wet turf and ball played in a big part late in the game, both teams were struggling.

In looking back at the game, Etscheid came in and did his job and provided ground balls for his team behind him to make the plays. It was unfortunate those plays didn't happen. Ryle had the game and probably should have come away with the win but it didn't happen. Congrats to NCC.

A slow grounder to third where the 3rd baseman came in and made an off balanced throw to 1st. The throw was low and the 1st baseman could not handle it. This allowed the tying run to score from second. If this play is made the game is over if I am not mistaken.

Both teams did a fine job under tuff circumstances. The wet conditions changed the entire face of the game. NCC committs 3 errors early that cost a few runs and then the table turned on Ryle late. Connor hadn't given up hit until the 3rd or 4th and the Ryle pitcher did an outstanding job as well. And again Cody Meyer was exceptional behind the plate for Ryle.

Yep, that would have been the game. Tough break, as Ryle's defense played exceptional up to this point. The error in the 8th by catcher also hurt, as it allowed two runs. But those things happen and you have to find a way to overcome them and Ryle didn't. They had great opportunities to still win in the the 7th and 8th, but fell short. Very nice season overall for Ryle and they have a lot of talent returning in 2010.
