Yep, that would have been the game. Tough break, as Ryle's defense played exceptional up to this point. The error in the 8th by catcher also hurt, as it allowed two runs. But those things happen and you have to find a way to overcome them and Ryle didn't. They had great opportunities to still win in the the 7th and 8th, but fell short. Very nice season overall for Ryle and they have a lot of talent returning in 2010.

 

Just to be clear, I am not saying the play at 3rd lost it for Ryle. There was other miscues in the game. That missed ball in the 8th really hurt after Ryle came back with 3 in the bottom.

You have to remember Etcheid came in cold without warming up at all from 3rd base. Believe me, I'm everything but a Ryle homer, and from what I've seen, if Etcheid has time to warm up, not necessarily even starting the game, but if he has time to warm up to relieve Donovan and get prepared, I feel he holds NCC. He did give up a couple hits, which technically count as unearned runs after errors but he could have shut them down. The dropped ball at home was what killed Ryle.

Completly agree with you. Even though it was a bad throw the first basemen needs to block that ball and keep the runners at third and first. Instead it gave NCC a run and a runner in scoring position.
