On Ch 27 news Saturday night they showed the dunk that Jaylan Daniels had for Team KY.

 

I watched it :thumb: Good steal by Chris Johnson of Blazer on that play. I thought they would show Polson as well, the camera was on him for awhile on that end of the court.

 

I have a team pic of Team KY from this past weekend, IF I can reduce it enough and have it still look good.

 

Hope others have some pics, action or team pics from this weekend as well.

Jalyn Daniels is a stud. I didnt get to see the dunk. Maybe it will be on youtube soon. Does anyone know if this kid will get to start varsity this year? I know he is on a good team.

I caught most of the tourney over the weekend. First, congrats to the repeat for the Shining Stars 17U. They have assembled a good group with inside/outside game, quickness, shooters. I felt Sewell was key for their sucess with his high energy of play, particularly in a that tough battle with Higher Level Gold.

A couple of teams that caught my attention (and others I'm sure) were the DSAS and Ky Firebirds run to the semis. DSAS is a group from E. Ky schools that were very cohesive. Barnhill, Hatfield, Steppe were all key as was #21 (don't know his name). Justice was outstanding and his drive to drop the Ky.Players in OT was clearly the highlight of the weekend. I spoke with him and several of their players and they are a great group of young men.

The Firebirds are apparently six kids from Highlands and a couple from Newport that competed and won at this level is impressive; quite a novelty act......included a nice win over DSAS on Friday and a lopsided win over SS (Bundy). Plenty of talent on the floor, and a clinic on team play. They should be proud of their efforts.

Been to plenty of state tourneys and this was the best run and officiated I have witnessed at KBA....good job tothe organizers.

In the 16U division, the Lexington Ice (with Fucci in attendance) was defeated by a team called the Thunder. Listed as The Truth in there pool. The Thunder won by 3, but they led mostly the whole game.

 

 

 

Not the tournament that the Ice had hoped for in defending their State title. It was their first tournament of the year and they were missing 2 good players - Taylor Martin (Lex Cath) and Cabot Haggin (Sayre) - due to district baseball. The Ice played well against DSAS but just didn't have the bench to keep up down the stretch.

 

SS and DSAS are 2 very good teams. I do think the Ice will compete with these guys in coming tournaments. With a full squad and the rust now removed, they should be fine. They put up 100 in 28 minutes against High Level (slowed the last 4 and finished with 106). Barnett and Fucci both topped 30 in that game. Against the WKY Elite, Forrest couldn't stop Fucci at all. As I've said before, he's the best 2011 guard in KY.

 

It was a good tournament and fun to watch some good basketball.

I would imagine that this LEX Ice team was rusty after not having played in a tournament game this summer season. Fucci looked worn out in his first game of the weekend against The Truth (Thunder), and he still played pretty well. I could have sworn that I saw Taylor Martin there and playing.

 

In regards to Fucci and Forrest, I also heard that Forrest dunked on Fucci a couple of times and that neither could guard the other. That was just hear say. I didnt get to see the game. Tough match-ups for both kids on the defensive end of the floor. Both are just awesome!

 

As far as being the best 2011 guard, i think that is arguable. He is definitely one of the best and maybe the best PG. But, the best "guard" could go to any number of players by the time it's all said and done. I dont think we've seen the best of Shanklin, Lionell Gaines, Remy Abell, Josh Forrest, Stenzel, marks, and a number of others who may play the guard position.

Don't look for him to start. The starters will be Zollo, Purvis, Rogers, Stenzel and ? ( PG). He did start several games last year when Rogers was hurt. I agree he is very athletic and could start for most schools.

I agree to a certain extent. But, you just cannot forget Flesch. This kid is the most talented defender for the NKY Bulldogs IMO. He also has the ability to score. I think this team is pretty stacked all around. IMO they are like a Shining Stars in their own right. Im learning more and more about them. I took a lot of time to get to know the Stars and DSAS and hope to do the same with the NKY Bulldogs.

It appeared to me that most of the players on this team had opportunities in the S. Stars game that I saw. Except for # 34, and the Hodges kid from Connor. But, it appeared both were in foul trouble.

 

Unless you are referring to another game, I didnt get to see much of the others.

 

If this is the case, unfortunately this can happen in AAU when one team has so much talent on it's roster. I dont think it's a knock against the kids by any means. You see it happen on every team and in every tournament I think.

 

I agree that the No. KY kids played really well this weekend. The only one I am curious about is Zach Perkins... Anyone know how he did with Team Kentucky? Did Blake Bryan play in this tournament?

 

I was very impressed with the Highlands run in the 17U division. Kudos to them!

 

It was exciting to watch the boys from Holmes get out and run. I think Ricardo Johnson will have some opportunities at the next level.

 

Being here, it's always fun to watch the No. KY boys come down and have success.

Zach played well, and hard this past weekend.

Pike Played Good, Had a Solid tourney! He's only a Frosh but plays up a level in 16u he scored about 12 in the Semi Finals and about 10 against DSAS. He Plays his roll and is a strpng post player, can also step out and shoot some!

 

Gilbert and Pawset are also solid player along with Shuttee this Shining Stars team plays very well together and was an exciting game to Watch!

Yeah, the Fucci getting dunked on was just hear say, so im not sure.

 

What do you mean by Stenzel lets up quite a bit... Like he plays down to the competition? Or, he quits playing at times?

Unless the Bulldogs are planning on making some roster changes they are not in the same catagory as the DSAS or Shining Star.
