Bengals Trade Harris for Leonard

Featured Replies

Every single team in the league had a "hit or miss" draft then.

To an extent, but the Bengals drafted questionable guys (IMO) in 2 out of the first 3 rounds.

What?

Coles has been in the league 10 years (TJ, 9) and Coles has had 1 year in the past 5 years where he has gotten over 1000 yards. Coles has also had 3 years in the last 5 where he's gotten less than 900 yards in the season.

TJ has had at least 900 yards every season for the last 5 seasons, including 2 seasons with over 1000 yards. TJ has also had more TD's every year for the past 5 years except for 1 (last season).

The D is going to be very good? I disagree.

The Steelers, Giants, Titans...those are teams with very good defense. The Bengals are not.

The D was 12th in the league last year, and addressed all of their problem-areas. Assuming they don't have any big injuries, I see no reason they aren't a top 8 D. That to me is very good.

Coles is a completely different type of receiver than TJ, so I don't know if comparing stats is the best way to compare the two. Coles to me, is a professional in every sense of the word, and is going to have a chance to really shine now that he doesn't have to be the #1 go to guy.

I completely disagree. They drafted far superior talent than almost any other team in the first 3 rounds. Two of those guys, Johnson, and Rey, have already expressed how much they want to prove all the teams that passed on them wrong. Smith is the most talented OL in the class. He made a bad decision at the combine, but that should not be enough to classify him as questionable.

Didn't he also get kicked off the team at Alabama for the bowl game?

And there are reasons teams passed on Rey and Johnson. A lot of players say they want to prove those that passed on them wrong...that says nothing yet.

Coles hasn't been the #1 guy for a while.

Coles has never had Carson (and a healthy Carson), or anyone of that caliber throwing to him. Coles is defiantly not a downgrade.

Yes he was, but it had nothing to do with disciplinary or character issues. He got caught up in the #1 overall pick hype, and talked with an agent. Not the smartest guy, but I don't think that should raise any questions about his character.

There aren't always reasons. Look at guys like TJ and Tom Brady. Why did people pass on them?

Maybe not last year, but until then he was.

I'm pretty sure he was suspended by the NCAA due to talking to an agent. While the line isn't superb, I think they fit a pass blocking scheme. They're defense was ranked 12th last year with Dhani Jones at MLB. Thinking the Who-Dey can go over .500 next year with their schedule isn't unrealistic at all, IMO... Coles has had Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemons, or a 39 year old Brett Favre throwing to him the past 5 years. Totally different than a healthy Carson Palmer...

He wasn't in 2007 either. He lost the #1 role to Cotchery that year.

Sorry but it just sounds like wishful thinking to me.

You can find diamonds in the rough from time to time, I'm not denying that. But I would have went with a safer first round pick than Smith. He had some very bad workouts that should have raised some questions, it wasn't just the combine.

TJ had Fitzpatrick throwing to him last season while Coles had Favre. TJ had more yards, didn't he?

Coles is definitely a downgrade. And he's on the downside of his career.

That's fine... It probably does as someone who isn't a big fan of the Bengals. But the facts are, they are finally making the right moves. You can say it was a "Hit or Miss" draft, but I don't see it not being leaps and bounds better than the previous Bengals drafts. I believe the Bengals have the right pieces in place, with a healthy #9, to be a legitimate threat...

I think this is a very good pickup for the Bengals. He was down last year but can do a lot of things. He is very good at catching the ball out of the backfield. I think the Bengals got a steal in Koffman.... it might take until next year for him to be full go but they are working on some matchup problems IMO.
