Just read on another site that J'town's Aaron Cosby has decided to take the prep school route and will be playing next season for Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. Cosby will also be reclassifying to the class of 2011.

Good luck to Cosby, but I hate to see good talent leave Ky like that. Kimbro left last year and now Cosby. Thats 2 D-1 players not finishing up in KY.

By going the prep school route, it gives kids the chance to take a 5th year as a post graduate and take an extra year of college prep courses. A lot of non-athletes take the post grad year to help them gain acceptance to the Ivy Leauge or other really selective schools. A lot of athletes take the "PG" year to prepare them for the academic and athletic rigors of D-1. It's a pretty common thing on the East Coast and in other parts of the country. It really is a good deal if the family can afford it or get some sort of financial aid/scholarship. Most of the East Coast prep schools cost about $45,000-$50,000 a year.

Real interesting career so far, play at Manual, sit out, play at Jtown, go to prep school. Not sure what is trying to be accomplished. By all accounts he has several scholarship offers, so why the need for Prep School. Grades? Test Scores? I would be leary as a coach wondering aloud about loyalty, thats just me though. I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Grades are surely not the issue here as Cosby has been fully qualified for a while now. Stability may be an issue, but 2 years at a place like Northfield Mount Hermon will change his life forever. Whatever the reason is, he will be getting a serious education for the next two years and major exposure on the basketball court. I looked at their website and they have about 10 alumni playing at Ivy League schools and about 25 more at other D-1 schools. My boy Jaron Brown from Bryan Station went up there to one of those schools and it catapulted him to a great career in the Big East at Pitt. The tuition at those prep schools is more than most major universities. It's a bold move, but seems to be a good step for the young man's future.

I truly wish him the best! From my stand point he is a really good kid with a very good work ethic.

 

On a selfish standpoint, I'm glad we won't see him in the 7th region next year. J'town is still loaded, but with one less quality player.

IMO he will be dissapointed because there is just nothing like playing high school basketball in Ky. Its special. I could be wrong, but IMO the games he had this year against teams like Ballard and Eastern will probably the most fun and exciting games he will play during his basketball career before college. Just a thought.

I'd say Cosby leaving J'town makes Eastern the hands down favorite to repeat as region champs next year with Gaines, Thomas, Abell, and Marks.

I'd add Male to that list as well. I really like them to surprise some people with Glenn, Hayes, and Pillischafske returning in the back court and Horne in the front court. Having Pillischafske for a full season at 100% is going to take a lot of pressure off of Hayes and Glenn and give them more open looks.

I think the top 3 teams in the 7th next year will be Eastern, Male, and then J'town.

 

I think Seneca could also surprise a lot of people. They return a nice nucleus with McElwain, Nance, Stone, and Maddox.

I wouldn't put Manual in that group that could knock off Eastern. They only took J'town to overtime last year in the KOB without Jenkins. Manual has nothing. :isurrender:

 

Things change in the course of a year. Kids get bigger and stronger, which means all of this talk means nothing.

 

About this time last year wasn't Scott county a lock to win state? :lol::lol:

Team chemistry is also huge and I think Manual, Seneca, and Trinity had issues at times during the season last year
