In the 80's, yes. It is tough for many to comprehend what Moeller had under Faust.

Thats just great............deny a student, who is qualified to attend a school and meets all academic standards, the equality of extracurricular activities.

 

Perhaps it should be taken a step further. Perhaps you should have to live ina state to go to high school in that state. In answer to your question or statement, yes it is great. I think you should have to be a resident of a state to participate in that state's athletic competition. Call me crazy!

Believe me, if the schools were leading the KHSAA there would be no out of state attendance, let alone athletic participation. They are not just extracurricular activities of the school, they are part of a state institution. As I have stated, they fixed this problem in Ohio years ago.

You perceive this as a problem. The Kentucky school system does not and it is allowed. Therefore you have a qualified student, who should be given every right of every other qualified student.

Actually, the Kentucky school system has nothing to do with it. The KHSAA has made no change due to the fact that they don't want to upset constituants of certain state politicians, not because the group as a whole doesn't see this as a problem. It ceases to become KENTUCKY competition if someone is competing in it that does not live in Kentucky.

It is up to individual districts and institutions to allow out of state students, it is up to the KHSAA to allow them to participate in KHSAA events.

If they are allowed to attend a school, they should be allowed to participate.

Interesting that foreign exchange students can be eligible and possibly even illegal immigrants but an American student from a neighboring state would not be.

I would think most schools who have the room would want any student. Schools get money from the state for each student and if a student lives out of the district, most schools will collect tuition money. Not just for athletes but for all students, so this is a huge revenue stream for a school.

It is my understanding that Ohio created the rule because of Cincinnati St. X swimming who was getting many more athletes than Moeller football.

Maybe true also as ST X swimming is unbelievable.

Like it or not, it was the fairest thing for Ohio. Along those same lines, the Diocese of Cincinnati portioned out the city so that each school had defined parishes that fed into the high schools. You can call both of those the Moeller rules. Moeller had athletes on its roster from Louisville, NKY, and Cincinnati. I know that this isn't a problem in NKY, I can't speak for Louisville.

one I know of was John Askin. went to st. bernard thru 8th grade, dad got transferred to Cincy, played 4yrs @ Moeller, then family moved back to Louisville. He went on to play @ notre dame & I believe the cowboys in a brief nfl career. the family move to cincy may have all been above board but it certainly looked fishy at the time, but I wasn't griping because he probably would've gone to st. x here...
