I was not at the game. But, if you've watched enough baseball to see both coaches tossed then it wasn't just one thing. Coaches usually get tossed because of events which happened during the game leading up to the point where they have just flat out had enough. Sometimes (this happens a bunch lately) certain umpiring crews (not all) just dont have thier act together. I would be interested in hearing the story on this one. Sounds like it had to have been a close game with many questionable calls! Just guessing on that!

Was it a varsity game? There was no score on the KHSAA website.

...and the KHSAA just put out a reminder that all ejections will result in minimum of (2) game suspensions instead of (1).

Or....it could be that the two coaches got involved in an "altercation" for some reason and both of them got dumped at the same time. I wouldn't automatically assume that "questionable" calls were the reason.

That's fair. I would agree with that statement. But I would rather see them get tossed over an umpire call than and altercation between each other if that's the case. Its a two game suspension plus it just looks bad . Umpires for the most part this year have been very good. It's not the judgement calls that i've have questioned this year. It's the baseball rules that have been missed. Again, overall no complaints on calls. Heck, I d' hate that job. But if I were doing it, the one thing I would know for sure would be the basic rules.

I'm not a big fan of coaches acting out so much that the umpire feels the need to toss them, but I think an automatic 2-game suspension is a tad harsh. 1-game should be sufficient, with perhaps some type of provison that allows the umpire to recommend an additional game if the behavior was egregious. Everybody has bad days - including umpires, who may have a very short fuse after a tough day at work :sssh:.

Didn't a Lawrence County assistant coach get something like seven games for bumping an umpire I believe last year? I understand once physical contact is made that it's a totally different situation. But didn't KHSAA say they were going to make an effort to make the punishment for being thrown out of games harsher after this? These suspensions are probably some of the first of many that will be much harsher than past ones.
