April 21, 200917 yr NBA is definately getting back to the status it was during the Jordan hey day. I went through a long spell of not watching and not really being a fan, but the last three years I have really dialed in.

There is no questioning that, IMO. I just don't think the NBA is half as exciting in the regular season, outside of a few games, as the post-season. I'm not a big enough NBA fan to watch more than 20 regular season games a year.

Watching 20 NBA games a year would classify you as a bigtime NBA fan around these parts. I think there are just too many games. 82 is a lot. And the NBA playoffs go on foooorrrrrrreeeeeevvvvvvvveeeeeerrrrrrrrr. I'd imagine it's difficult to be your best night-in & night-out in the NBA. That's why some of the games are less thrilling than others. The NBA Playoffs are legit, though.
April 21, 200917 yr To answer the thread's original question: No, the NBA is not more pure. Wasn't it just last season where the officials were caught gambling on the games? That's about as corrupt (or "un"pure) as you can get, IMO.
April 22, 200917 yr I love the marketing. The "Where Amazing Happens" commercials are awesome. You advance the ball to half-court if you call a timeout before you attempt to advance the ball. The individual first marketing thing is not a new thing in the NBA. There are LeBron fans everywhere. There are Kobe fans everywhere. How else would you reach markets, such as the BGP market, without marketing individual players / celebrities? Um, it's supposed to be a team game. This is where the Jordan era ruined the NBA for me. Your explanation of the time out thing still doesn't shed any light on the nonsensicality (is that a word?) of the rule. Why should you be rewarded with preferential positioning just for calling a time out? Where's the incentive for the defense to full-court press?

NBA coaches are good. They X and O it pretty well... I'll grant it's better than it used to be, back when the only play was pick'n'roll or pick'n'pop. But it's still mostly a one-on-one game.
April 22, 200917 yr The skill level in the NBA is almost sickening. It really is. I don't buy it when people say that there is no D in the NBA. First of all, scoring 96 in an NBA game is the same as scoring 64 in a high school game (both are average). Secondly, NBA players hit shots with guys right up in their grill with regularity and ease. The only time I've seen better basketball is at the CovCath alumni tourney.

April 22, 200917 yr I think playoff basketball is a lot of fun but don't care much for the NBA other than that. The Den/NO battle is going to be fun to watch. It was a very physical 1st game.
