April 15, 200917 yr How dangerous is Mexico right now ? I keep hearing terrible things on the news about how unsafe Mexico is right now. I'll be going to Cancun in a month and I'm wondering if I should cancel my trip and go somewhere else. Should I cancel my trip or go and just stay on the resort property ?
April 15, 200917 yr No, don't cancel your trip--just be smart. I traveled to the Playa Paraiso area in January and it was wonderful! We flew into Cancun and took a small Apple Transfer bus to our resort. I never felt the least bit unsafe. I would not rent a car or travel off the beaten path by myself or anything, but if you are smart it is fine. I would have no qualms about walking around Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Cozumel. Have a great time!

April 15, 200917 yr I plan on drinking everything but the water  Say hello to Jose for me.
April 15, 200917 yr Ummm...I'm sure there are safe places. It's getting to them that's the challenge! Personally, the reports of many beheaded people is enough to put me off even traveling south of Tennessee!

April 16, 200917 yr That's kind of where I am on the situation. I think I will go and just stay on the resort. You will be fine. Even if you drink the water--all the resorts have filtered water and ice. The stuff you shouldn't drink is clearly labeled "non potable" so there is no mistaking it. The state run taxis are fine, too. How are you getting to and from the resort?

A shuttle set up by the company we booked through.
April 16, 200917 yr Author Speaking of getting to and from the resort, does anyone know about how long it takes to get from the airport to Cancun's hotel zone ?

Speaking of getting to and from the resort, does anyone know about how long it takes to get from the airport to Cancun's hotel zone ? You'll be fine then!:thumb: It should take about 20 minutes, give or take how many stops you have to make. Not too long at all.
April 16, 200917 yr From what I have read you are fine in the resort areas. Just be smart. If you have a regular doctor, many people recommend that you call them and tell them you're going to Mexico and ask if there's anything they can give you in case you eat or drink something. I have been to Mexico several times and never gotten sick, but I know people who have. Doesn't hurt to check in with your doctor, worst thing is to go to such great resorts and be sick.
April 16, 200917 yr Speaking of getting to and from the resort, does anyone know about how long it takes to get from the airport to Cancun's hotel zone ? It doesn't take that long to get to the actual hotel zone, maybe 15 minutes, but it might take much much longer to get to your specific hotel. The strip is very very long. As far as Cancun's safety, I felt completely safe the entire time I was down there. Every native I encountered was very nice and helpful. You don't have to stay at your resort. Just be smart when you leave. You can wonder a bit during the day, but if your traveling at night know exactly where you're going, and take busses. Enjoy your trip.
