Captain freed by NAVY- Pirates killed

Featured Replies

Once they have shown they will kill then it is a coin toss as to whether they will return the captives alive anyway. At that point negotiations are worthless except to stall until you are in place to extract the hostages.

I'm not sure how this relates to my post? I'm in support of Obama's actions. I'm just trying to point out that the line of thinking that leads people to believe that the pirates won't kill hostages because they're more interested in them for money is erroneous. It's blind to believe that the pirates won't try to use killing to "up the ante" so to speak.

I'm also trying to point out that it's not as simple as "killing all of them". There are more where they came from. The situation in Somalia is desperate, at best. There is an unending stream of desperate boys & men who would be willing to risk their lives for the kind of money the pirates have been getting.

I was just pointing out that it would not be in their best interests to do that, just having the hostages as human shields is good enough really.

To the second point, I think you are correct as it is a challenge to understand where they are coming from. The thing is though, if they are shown unequivocally that these kinds of actions will result in their certain death then maybe they will stick to the mainland and go back to killing each other instead.

The title of this thread should be

Yankees 3 Pirates 0

I invite you to do some reading on the situation in Somolia. I don't believe they're afraid of death, either at the hands of one they know, or at our hands.

I have a great book, Infadel, that you could start with. It only took me a day or so to read. It is written by a woman, and more about the human rights issues that face women in Somalia. The issues that face them, though, are inextricable from the conflicts in Somalia as a whole. Very enlightening read. I also know some Somolian refugees that are here in Louisville if you're interested in speaking to them.

I have no interest in finding out what they are feeling. Offer no money for hostages and kill as many as we can for taking them.

Congrats to the snipers. One shot, one kill!

I don't think it matters what we do. I don't think killing them will deter others or cause them to up the ante. They will do what they think will make them the most money in any individual circumstance.
