Fishing Areas in NKY

Featured Replies

I believe its ORSANCO that publishes its recommendation each year of how many and how often certain species of fish caught in the Ohio River should be consumed. As I recall, the greatest concern is with catfish. For the record, I've consumed fish out of the Ohio River with no ill effects (well, at least none that I aware of :D).

Your right LN. ORSANCO is a great resource for water quality data and species conditions in the Ohio River. They're located on Kellogg Ave and have several test areas along the river that are monitored daily.

As for your ill effects, I'll wait for another thread!:D

Another good spot is down off Route 8 in Silver Grove right across the river from Coney Island and Riverbend. Its a nice sand beach and we pull nice sized fish out of there all the time.

I was out yesterday on our boat and looking where I think you are talking about. It sure does look like a great spot to fish. Is this the property that is split by the creek at the bottom of 1998. Is there access to that by car and who owns that property. Do you need permission to fish from the shore. I have heard that it is under new ownership.

I dont think it's anyones property we have fished there for a while and have never been ran off so i'm not really sure. But i'm not sure where your talking about its right straight across from Riverbend.

Well then you have some of those same ill effects my friend; just what do you think is in some of those dishes that Henry prepares for tailgates and after game parties? :D

Nothing new, happens all the time.

Doesn't mean that those fish haven't been exposed to Mercury (Hg) or and PCB (polychlorinated benzene) contamination. You have to watch out, just because it is clear doesn't mean a thing.

Back in the day, the carbon tet advisory came well after it had made its way down the river. Hopefully things have gotten a lot better since then.
