I personally thought it was an error.

 

In order for me to say it should have been an error I have to say to myself "he should have caught that ball." Are you saying that despite the hop it took into his chest area that he still should have caught it?

But I feel it wasn't a "bad hop." I think it was a ball that should have been knocked down. Instead the fielder tried to stab at it. I saw no bad hop involved, IMO. That's where we will agree to disagree.

Gotcha. We saw it differently. However, I will ask this. How did the ball end up bounding off of his chest?

:idunno:But I thought it clearly hoped on him and he tried to block it with his chest but it bounce away from him....

Once again I stress, what was extraordinary about this, it was right at the fielder...it was a semi hard hit ball that was taking bigger bounces...it didn't bounce over his head or hit a rock and shoot left or right. If indeed this does fall in the category of being a head scorers judgment call and its a Cov Cath hitter, and the head scorer is TOG, it will always be a hit. So we move on...:walk:

We really did see it differently. There were no "big bounces." I remember it being a line drive bouncing twice with the 2nd bounce the one coming up into his chest. It then bounded to his right 6 to 8 feet.

Correct...two bigger bounces, not the ones along the ground, with a ball hitting off the fielders chest that he didn't handle, error.

 

Carney is a terrific fielder and would make that play almost every time, and I have seen him do it many many times. In the end the run means nothing...I am merely trying to point out the Cov Cath homer scoring system.

I agree that Logan is indeed a very good fielder, and that's the other reason, I didn't give him an error because he is a very good fielder. It's like the batter who is a very good hitter, who understands the strike zone very well or the pitcher who has great control. Umpires (and they shouldn't do it but they do) give the batter a smaller strike zone and the pitcher a larger one, because of who they are.

Because I like and respect Dan and understand how much pain he must have been in, not to have come to see his kid play the game he loves to play, coach and watch. If that's the reason you think I didn't give his kid an error, then yes, you caught me, a CovCath guy being nice to a friends kid, who plays for Ryle! I plead guilty as charged.....:isurrender::walk:

What should be taken from this game is the fact that Isler pitched 6 innings. If pitching is truly a CCH strength, then why did Isler throw 91 pitches on 2 days rest in just the second week of the season? You would think CCH would have had plenty of other pitchers to use in the game since the tournament was cancelled and thus this game really didn't mean that much.

To me unless the ball hits a lip, a rock, or ridge the hop can not be considered a bad hop. It is a misplayed ball. The fielder either needs to move in or step back to get it on a good hop. I was not at the game and did not see the play in question but that is my opinion on how to score a hopping ball.

Isler, his coach, and his parents all know when his arm is at it's limit. His elbow after Tommy John feels the best it has ever felt, it's a matter of him getting the innings and pitching 5 or 6 innings as opposed to the 3 or 4 he was allowed when he was recovering. He will not ruin his arm.
