April 2, 200917 yr What is your reason for your answer? I am guessing one reason is she has a letter from her probation officer that states they will allow her to attend, and the fact that the kid she was "involved" with no longer attends the school. Just my guess. We are asked to pray and forgive, including forgiving the small % of Priests, I don't see why it would hurt for her to be there, since she has the clearance from the probation officer.
April 2, 200917 yr Author Legally she got off easily, but only because she had to care for a son with cancer. In jail, or not, she has had a very hard time. In the eyes of the law, she has paid for her crime and has permission from her parole officer to attend. It would not have been a great hardship on Covington Catholic to let her go in at the last minute and sit in the back of church to watch the service, as she requested. She is not a danger to anyone there. Her son has come through a very difficult time and wants her there. I think the school could have shown a little compassion. Eric Deters asked in the video "What would Jesus do?". I think he would have shown compassion.

Forgive yes, but show compassion and sympathize for her? Also, would Jesus protest the graduation if Dinkel isn't allowed to go, and taking away a joyous day for all the other graduates, like Deter's said they might do?
April 2, 200917 yr BTW, I am unsure about if she should or shouldn't be allowed. Just trying to get some thoughts from others.

Before this story ever hit the paper, Cov Cath could have allowed her to discretely slip in and out of the service, which is all she wanted to do. Now that it has been in the paper and Cov. Cath says the decision is final, I doubt they will change their minds. In that case, she should respect the decision and definately NOT have some type of public demonstration. I just think some kind of arrangement could have been made before it got to this point.
April 2, 200917 yr If you are a registered sex offender that is against the law right? What is right for one is right foe everyone. She should have thought about all this when she did what she did........
April 2, 200917 yr I would let her attend. I also think the registration of sex offenders has gotten way out of hand.
April 2, 200917 yr I would let her attend. I also think the registration of sex offenders has gotten way out of hand. Agreed. You can be registered as a sex offender for something as simple as public urination or mooning someone. That's just stupid.
April 2, 200917 yr If she was a man and the victim a girl, this would not even warrant a discussion. Why? I'd let the father attend if it happened to him.
April 2, 200917 yr If she was a man and the victim a girl, this would not even warrant a discussion. Even if the girl no longer attended the school, and the man had done his time? That's a stretch, however just for the sake of it, was it statutory rape that she was convicted of?
April 2, 200917 yr It is my understanding she asked only to sit in the very back row of the auditorium and only at the end when certificates were passed out. Seriously, what harm could this do? Will it really ruin the ceremony or anyone else's evening? I see this situation as being far more about her son than her. HE is the one being harmed by this decision. He's been through enough in his life. Let him have his mother there to see his hard work honored.

She was convicted of third degree rape. That means someone age 21 or older engaging in sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years of age.
