March 29, 200917 yr Steve Lavin 6-years at UCLA 5-sweet 16 appearences 1-Final four He was too young for the job at UCLA but now that he is older and wiser????
March 29, 200917 yr No thanks. He does look a bit like Calipari, though. Well, similar hairstyles at least.
March 29, 200917 yr Right now I don't care who coaches UK as long as they get back to the promise Land...:thumb:
March 29, 200917 yr I agree, not a bad resume but I don't think he would be the right guy for the job.
March 29, 200917 yr We need KY ties. What about Pat Riley (you never know til you ask). Get Riley for 2-3 years and when hes ready to move on, hopefully we will have just won the Final 4 and Travis Ford or John Pelphrey can step in and keep the big blue rolling.

March 29, 200917 yr Why?:idunno: First, cause anyone from KY understands the passion of the fans and knows the off the court politics involved with the job. Second, we need blue chip players now...who else can you get in here that could have a bigger impact on recruiting and motivating current players? There is a reason that Riley gets $50k per for his motivational speeches. He is considered one of the top speakers for motivational speaking. Third, he may just bring a little Rupp magic back.

Bama football was saying the same thing. Then they realized they lived in the past and decided to move forward and hire one of the best in the game.

Saban didnt play at Alabama and came strictly for the $$$ and will leave for the same reason. Riley played at KY and has made more than he can spend already and would be coming with a purpose not motivated strictly by $$$.

And if he had one inkling of success at Kentucky he would be back at the NBA level in no time. What makes us think he would be a great recruiter? Because he's a good speaker? Has he ever had to walk into a kids house and convince them to play somewhere? No. Also, he's getting older. Does he have the energy to put in the every day work to coach at UK? I doubt it.

He stepped down as coach due to hip replacement surgery and the grueling travel with the NBA schedule. He is still the President/ GM of the Heat so he does know something about getting players. As far as recruiting, every talented kid coming into college is trying to figure out the quickest way to the NBA so Riley can use that to his advantage. He knows what it takes and would have an easy time convincing an NBA wannabee of that.
