March 30, 200917 yr I personally don't think Riley is right for the job, but I wouldn't care to see Barnhart have him (Riley) be on the hiring committee.
March 30, 200917 yr Fossill, there are huge Bama fans on BGPs. If you want the Saban story I'll be glad to inform you, but its in the history on the site and I want to read about UK/coaching search.
March 30, 200917 yr Saban didnt play at Alabama and came strictly for the $$$ and will leave for the same reason. Riley played at KY and has made more than he can spend already and would be coming with a purpose not motivated strictly by $$$. Highly doubtful...as long as he is winning, Bama will pay him as much as he wants. If UK wants a big name coach, they are going to have to put up the numbers that Bama did for football (4 million a year). Bama just got their Basketball coach for $2 million a year.
March 30, 200917 yr We need KY ties. What about Pat Riley (you never know til you ask). Get Riley for 2-3 years and when hes ready to move on, hopefully we will have just won the Final 4 and Travis Ford or John Pelphrey can step in and keep the big blue rolling. How many Basketball Coaches in the UK history were from Kentucky or played for Kentucky?
March 30, 200917 yr ^ One Joe Hall. So what makes the KY connection such an important hire. If my memory serves me, Joe B. only won one NCAA title. Was ridiculed at times for his style and decisions, at best was a good coach, not a great one. I always liked Joe B., but never thought of him as legendary.
March 30, 200917 yr First, cause anyone from KY understands the passion of the fans and knows the off the court politics involved with the job. Second, we need blue chip players now...who else can you get in here that could have a bigger impact on recruiting and motivating current players? There is a reason that Riley gets $50k per for his motivational speeches. He is considered one of the top speakers for motivational speaking. Third, he may just bring a little Rupp magic back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pitino didn't have any KY ties when he took over.
