letabrotherspeak Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Figured I would just lump a bunch of stuff in one thread. -BCG told the team "goodbye" after the game tonight. Players pretty much had same answers in post game media. This is consistent with what has transpired over the last few weeks...do not believe everything a player says in the media. -Announcement of this could come before Friday. -Also heard that BCG was looking to get out a few weeks ago. He went to administration with ultimatum...that didnt sit well. He is putting up a front with media. -NC State has an interest in him...even though Sidney Lowe is still there. -There was a meeting Friday night...a lot was discussed including changes and a contract...BCG balked. -Anthony Grant is waiting on UK to settle down...before committing to anything. -John Calipari is a wild card in the discussions. I have heard that Donovan could possibly be had for 3-4 million dollars...that is conjecture, and some have said he has already said "no". Two former players have said that Donovan would accept the job. I have heard nothing about discussions only going off of what former players have said. -The circus is back in town....
Baseballguy Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 It must be true. Pat Forde just said on ESPN that BCG will not be back and this should be confirmed by friday. Like GT said, Billy D. to UK and Anthony Grant to Florida. For the record, I heard some things at the sweet sixteen tournament that actually didn't surprise me to much. For example, BG doesn't treat former UK players with much respect. Heard he and Richie Farmer don't get along at all and he's not the only one.

From what I understand, there have been inquiries with a big time coach and the feelings are mutual. Also agree, like I stated earlier, that the ball was in Billy's court for the past few weeks and he didn't like some of the stipulations that were being requested in the contract. And I don't think Gillispie "asked out," but the situation was kind of forced onto him. I have heard conflicting reports on Calipari. Some say that he is interested, but some say that Kentucky won't offer. I feel that Donovan will accept, Grant will move to UF, and then the rest will fall in place. Gillispie will either be at NC State, TexTech if it opens, or a school further west.
TheLegends64 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I hope Kentucky gets Donovan, if they don't I hope they take their time and don't offer it to everyone. How about doing interviews and finding out interest before you offer it.
ekubum Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 How will this play out in the national media, assuming it happens?

letabrotherspeak Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 I dont know...it has to be a homerun. I still think BCG is a very good coach, but just a bad fit. I know as far back as a month ago, MB off the record said he had "buyers remorse". It was somewhat of a risk but most agreed it was a pretty good hire. BCG has had some problems. He portrayed himself to be able to do certain things....people vouched for him. Just didnt pan out. Personally, I think Mitch was out looking for the good of the players. He is especially harsh on players. He overworked Meeks last year and said he was soft...the day after his injury...he was running the steps at Memorial. Jasper felt rushed in his recovery... Legion got out of the dodge because he couldnt take it. BCG arbitrarily booted AJ Stewart two times. He wont get 6 mil buyout...may get half and both sides will agree to play nicey nice.

stick1 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Pretty ironic how most everybody wanted Billy D but got Billy G. They then got excited about Billy G only to not be able to stand him for the most part. A year later and they get the guy they wanted in the first place...Billy D lol!
GO CATS Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Not as bad as people think...get a big name and it dies out quick. I hope your right but it sounds like a circus to me...

SouthernSportsFan Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Just found out the following: Gillispie, Barnhart, and Todd will all have a meeting and decide the final word on what will be announced Friday (or Monday). Gillispie wants to be a Kentucky and may be willing to make changes, so I hear.
