First of all let me apologize for adding this to the BCHS football thread. I thought this would be a great place to put it since there are lots of Rebels fans (that includes me, 2 to 3 times a day during football season) and former BCHS wrestlers checking this site out. I know there is a wrestling site and I have put this thread there as well.

 

Boyle County is starting a wrestling program this fall. They haven't had one since the late 80's. The turnout so far is about 40 kids. Probably by time the season starts these numbers will go down, but still an impressive start. More than half of these kids do not play any other sports so this give them the opportunity to be on a team and compete like Boyle's other athletic teams do. Several football players have siged up as well, but hopefully won't join the team until mid December. Former middle school football head coach Keith Smith will be the head coach with Ron Barbado (former wrestling coach in the 80s), and other former wrestlers from that timeframe being the assistant coaches

 

The only drawback is that there are no funds for this programs to start with. The school system is not providing any funding this year and only will provide transportation and officials for next year season. Everything from mats, helmets, uniforms (singlets), and etc. will be needed to start up the program. The program needs around $15,000, maybe less if they can get some used mats for a decent price. All of the coaches are volunteering their time to get this program off the ground and running. Fundrasiers will begin very soon because the practice season starts Oct. 15th. If anyone knows any business or individual that would like to donate money or equipment, please send me a private message.

 

Now back to the current subject, FOOTBALL. I hope to see all of you at the "Come out to meet the Rebel football team" tonight at Rebel Stadium. There will be food and an auction as well as a punt, pass and kick for the kids. It should be fun for everyone. :jump:

Hatz I had almost forgotten the broken arm. I remember listening to you do those games. You did pretty well with what you had to work with.

For the auction I heard there was an ancient document from the war days at Junction City Elementary. Remember the 70's.:lol:

 

It's amazing how our past continues to resurface. (Just like Rebel :thumb:)

 

Steve Bertram told me an interesting tale the other night. He said he uses that time and me as an illustration to be happy with what you have.

 

He explains that during the mid to late 80's he was doing Danville games and the Ads were burying people at a tune of 35-0 at many halftimes. Boyle was in the other direction at the time and one Friday night , after games, Steve and I met at the radio station.

 

Steve said to me, "Do you know how hard it is to keep listeners interested and excited in a 2nd half when you're up 28 or 35 points?"

 

I stared at Steve and said, "Really? You ought to try it on the other side sometime."
