nees1212 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I finally got fed up and filed an official pet/animal complaint with the local police department tonight. I've encounted 2 pit bulls running loose in my neighborhood in the past 3 weeks. 3 weeks ago, one chased us from the playground area. Then tonight, my dog and a different pit bull were barking at each other at the fence line and trying to get at one another through the fence. A few weeks ago, a lady up the street and her son were blocked from the only unlocked door at their house by one of these dogs. Another neighbor's dog was attacked by one of these dogs. This is one dog that I do not trust. I hate that I cannot take a walk through my subdivision with my family and dog without the thought of one of these dogs approaching us. My dog hates other dogs, so walking him is always a chore when another dog not on a leash approaches. From the stories I've heard, and what I witnessed tonight, if one of these dogs approach my dog and I on a walk, I'd be in serious trouble.

oldrambler Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Nees, I don't blame you at all on what you did. As matter of fact and imo you handled things the proper way by notifying the authorities. Should a person want to own a dangerous animal like the pit bull then that is thier choice I guess but imo they should make sure they are restrained to where they could not be a threat to anyone. I must say that I compliment you for the action that you took. I would have been tempted to give the dogs (pit bulls) a sudden case of "lead' poisoning and eliminate the problem immediately and permanantly. Like I said, should people want to own a pit bull or any dog then imo they should be responsible enough to take the proper pracautions and nor put anyonme else in danger. My personal opinion is that there is no such thing as a completely "tame" pit bull, that is just not in that breed of animal. Good luck to you and I hope that you get a resolution to this problem.:thumb:
ColonelCrazy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Where are their owners? You did the right thing.

I also agree Nees handled it better than I probably would have.
nees1212 Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Where are their owners? You did the right thing. I do not know the owners. I have heard that someone just outside our neighborhood, on the main road, owns and breeds them.
ColonelCrazy Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I do not know the owners. I have heard that someone just outside our neighborhood, on the main road, owns and breeds them. I didn't know if they were with their owner (or relatively close to their home, or yard) or if they were stray dogs. You did the right thing. Pit bulls, generally speaking, scare me. I'm a dog guy, but they're dangerous. Pit bulls, without their owner, are even worse.

Both had collars on and were very healthy looking. I don't believe they're strays.
LRCW Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I would have to pack some heat if I were you. There's no way I would want to take on a pit bull without some sort of protection. What kind of dog do you have nees? What did the police tell you?

What kind of dog do you have nees? What did the police tell you? I have a border collie mix, who thinks he's a 200lb Rott when another dog approaches. :idunno: I filled out the online form last night with the local PD. If I don't get a call back today, then I'm going to call and talk to them. I found out this morning that other neighbors have filed complaints as well.
woodsrider Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I am serious as a heart attack when I say that if I were you I would not go on a walk or even be in my yard with out either pepper spray or a gun (a gun would be my choice) until these dogs are taken care of. I would make sure you keep your dog locked up as well. And I would not hesitate in shooting one or both of these dogs if need be. Also if you have any kids I wouldn't let them play outside by themselves until the dogs are taken care of.

I don't know if that's your daughter in your avatar nees, but no way I let her play outside with those dogs running loose.

I hope the police respond appropriately!
