I didn't say their college careers had any bearing on their high school accomplishments.

 

But the voters that select Mr. Basketball are picking the best player in the state. Given the way their college careers have progressed, it's another indication that the voters got it right when they voted for Pettigrew.

Not even top 50? Okay, maybe I'm overestimating him, but yikes. He was pretty darn good.

 

Also, he won one game at the tournament, 1998. 1st round vs. Hazard 58-53. Was named to the all-tournament team. I think basketball was a different game then, especially in the 90's.

 

With people throwing out 16th region players I thought I would compare one. Like I said since 2000, outside of OJ Mayo I think Zornes was the best in the region. If you are going to throw Ethan Faulkner and Jon Ferguson on this list I think he has to be mentioned. I'm not taking anything away from those boys, I just think he was better. Maybe I should have specified that. I know people will get up in arms about that but what can I do.

Its also easier to put up much better numbers playing against lesser competition. I can see an argument both ways, but neither 1 of us are going to change our minds so no big deal I am moving on from the discussion.

Pettigrew had a big game against Holmes when they met his senior year. I know Holmes blew them out and won by 24, but it wasn't from a lack of effort from the big fella. Pretty sure he had a double double against them with over 20 and 10.

I may be going back 11 or 12 years on this but if you are talking about either the high school career or state tournament performance you would have to say Rick Jones needs to be on this list somewhere.
