"We have decided to pass on the CBI Tournament," said Boston, who said the school was invited to participate on Thursday should they fail to win their conference tournament. "We were given the opportunity to host but I wasn't confident that we could generate the revenue that we would need."

Financial considerations were the major factor for declining a CBI invite for the second year in a row.

NMSU would have to guarantee $60,000 to host CBI games, Boston said.

"Our goal would be to break even and the $60,000 doesn't even cover the out of pocket expenses associated with game management," Boston said.

The Aggies averaged 6,240 fans in 16 home games this season.

The Aggies could have been on the road for the tournament, but time out of the classroom has already been substantial as players missed seven days of school already the past two weeks.
