Wireman Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 They just brought their website back up (I guess it was hammered tonight). Should start seeing a few teams in the schedule soon. The CBI also kicks off on Tuesday night. http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/index_main.htm
LRCW Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 New Mexico State turned it down Man, are they arrogant or what? Do they think that it's the NIT or nothing for them?
AHSPanther23 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Scribe, Where are you getting your information from?
The Scribe Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Man, are they arrogant or what? Do they think that it's the NIT or nothing for them? "We have decided to pass on the CBI Tournament," said Boston, who said the school was invited to participate on Thursday should they fail to win their conference tournament. "We were given the opportunity to host but I wasn't confident that we could generate the revenue that we would need." Financial considerations were the major factor for declining a CBI invite for the second year in a row. NMSU would have to guarantee $60,000 to host CBI games, Boston said. "Our goal would be to break even and the $60,000 doesn't even cover the out of pocket expenses associated with game management," Boston said. The Aggies averaged 6,240 fans in 16 home games this season. The Aggies could have been on the road for the tournament, but time out of the classroom has already been substantial as players missed seven days of school already the past two weeks. LINK
Big Slick Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 If teams keep turning them down, I don't look for this tourney to last much longer.
iceking Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 That money to come up with is huge in a 3rd tier tournament.
Wireman Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 They still have about 200 teams to choose from. Surely they'll find 16
The Scribe Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Austin Peay has been contacted I think as has Chicago State. However, they have to come up with the home teams first who can come up with the 60K.
