My goodness, no way was Principal Keepers going to take the funds from another stash. Of course, she had been reallocating funds meant for stadium upkeep and using them to upgrade technology at the school in general. This was at her discretion, and there were barely enough funds to pay for gas for grass cutting during the summer. My source? I'll simply say they resided extremely close to the field.:banana:

Anyone who's actually kept tabs of the stadium the past 10 years has seen some incredible renovations and improvements as part of Eagle Scout projects, booster club plans, etc.

 

The Stadium has improved 1000% with all the efforts that have been put forth. The lights are only going to be part of it. I'm proud of all that's been accomplished at Manual Stadium.

I was there 2 years ago and couldn't tell any difference.

Now, if you all would attempt to have some Alumnni help buy field turf and then you have a venue suitable for all sorts of events without the worry of rain ruining the playing surface. Field Hockey, LaCrosse, Soccer, Baseball (tryouts and practice). they all could be hit in addition to Football. I believe your school opened in 1896 or so, so you've got some serious living alumni numbers. Male could do the same thing. With this new superintendent, I bet he'd "allow" your alumni base to fund the field turf.

Yes. Yes. It easily holds 10,000!

 

It opened in I believe in 1924. I have a copy of the newspaper article somewhere. I do know Male Alumni helped pay for the original lights which were added a few years later. When it opened, it was just inside the Louisville city limits at that time. Used to be closed in completely, but the wooden stands were condemned 35-40 years ago. UK played a few home games there.

Someone with a copy of the Manual football history book published 50 years ago will have more information.

 

Personally, I saw my first high school game there in 1973, a 44-0 win for Trinity over the Crimsons. I was in the 7th grade.
