March 8, 200917 yr Author Do you honestly think he recruited him to be a head case and most of the time well below average on the floor? Seriously? Come on... You obviously didn't get the point. Of course he didn't recruit him to be a head case, but do you think he recruited him because he thought he was the savior as point guard? He needed depth, exactly like I said. Liggins was ripe for the taking and he did what he felt was necessary for his team to perform higher. Whether he is a head case or not, Gillispie didn't see him as a savior, in my opinion. The point I made, gt, was that Gillispie didn't offer Liggins in the mindset that Liggins was going to be the savior at Kentucky. The point of offering was for extra depth at a position that was needed, especially since Jasper was gone. Do you honestly think Gillispie extended the offer because he felt, truly in his heart, that Liggins was going to be the next best point guard?
March 8, 200917 yr Author By the way. MUCH MUCH higher regarded recruit than both Field and Law. MUCH... That's not the point. Does it matter once they enter college? Fields and Law were both superior to most in college.
March 8, 200917 yr Do you honestly think Gillispie extended the offer because he felt, truly in his heart, that Liggins was going to be the next best point guard? Without a doubt. I think you are simply trying to rationalize out this mess to somehow make it easier to deal with. He recruited an elite PG for depth only. Rich...
March 8, 200917 yr Author Without a doubt. I think you are simply trying to rationalize out this mess to somehow make it easier to deal with. He recruited an elite PG for depth only. Rich... Let me ask this: Do you think Liggins was recruited as a savior? Yes or no...
March 8, 200917 yr Let me ask this: Do you think Liggins was recruited as a savior? Yes or no... In between there and what you said, to say he recruited him for depth is beyond hysterical.
March 8, 200917 yr Let me ask this: Do you think Liggins was recruited as a savior? Yes or no... He was recruited as a long term answer at the point. Savior? He's not recruiting Jesus...
March 8, 200917 yr Author In between there and what you said, to say he recruited him for depth is beyond hysterical. Perfectly fine with me. The point being is that he didn't recruit him as the savior. Like the title states, this is my opinion.
March 8, 200917 yr Author He was recruited as a long term answer at the point. Savior? He's not recruiting Jesus... Please. Any big time recruit, including Patterson at times, was hailed as the "savior." Even Morris was considered the "savior" when word was he was going to be allowed to play starting mid-season.
March 8, 200917 yr "They're recruiting me as the guy they want running their team, making everyone else better," he said. "That's big for me because I want to play the 1. That's my favorite position. "(Gillispie) showed me some of Acie Law's video tape from Texas A&M. It was amazing what they did with him. I could see myself fitting that role and that style of play."
March 8, 200917 yr Author  gametime: Just goes to show coaches will say whatever is needed to land a recruit... The above quote, posted by you, GameTime, on 6/27/07... Well.. someone like you.. you get the point! :sssh:
March 8, 200917 yr He swung and missed on Liggins bottom line... Next. It happens to the best of them sometimes. Maybe he's not the great recruiter we all think he is. Little to early to judge still IMO.
