A Few Question For Obama Fans

I'd say that's accurate. Schools vary in quality, and ability to serve the challenged equally. So, I would say that no, they aren't all afforded the same opportunity.

As for post-secondary education, depending upon how you qualify the label "equal opportunity", there are many opportunities out of the economic reach of the "masses".

Yet there are those in the schools of lower quality that achieve beyond what some in the higher quality schools do. Why is that?

That is exactly what I am saying.

Then your wrong. An education is what you make of it. You show me the worst school in the country and I guarantee you there are plenty of students in that school who are as smart as any at any school. Some may have to work harder because their school isn't the best but that doesn't mean the opportunity isn't there.

In some areas, public school is the only option. But to say that all public schools are equal is disingenuous at best. Therefore, I stand by my premise that all do not have equal opportunity in education.

No, not all schools when judged as a whole are equal. But that doesn't mean you can't receive a good education from any of them if you apply yourself.

To say all private schools are equal is disingenuous at best then.
It's not class envy, I would love to be in that class and if I were I wouldn't be belly aching about paying a 35% income tax. I obviously feel 35% is a fair figure.

The top ten percent of income earners pay around 1/3 of the income taxes. Can you tell me what percentage of the wealth in this country that they control?

Why do the righties insist on continuing to punish those who haven't been fourtunate enough to hit the genetic lottery or the educational environment to succeed. I know I know they should pull themselves up by their boot straps......

I love how so many of you people rare back and scream how fair it is to raise taxes on the rich when we all know you would feel totally different if it were you having to cough it up. To me, that's classic "Class Envy".

We all have the opportunity to become rich in this country. Don't be jealous if you are not one of them.

And they are the one's that are way off base.

Really? Sometimes I'm not so sure. Yes, Trinity was the perfect place for my son, and Assumption the best place for my daughter. But what of all the other things they gave up? We've never had a place that was "all ours". We moved many times. They were able to go on great vacations with their dad, and we did have one once-in-a-lifetime vacation in Jekyll Island. But that was because the hotel there forgot to close out their employee rate and I capitalized on it when I worked @ Holiday Inn (7 days @ $15/night was too good to pass up.) What about the fact that we never could get in our car knowing that it wouldn't overheat or break down? Ask my son about helping me put the muffler back on one car with coat hangers. Fun times.

Ask them about having to go for a week without electricity once, because peter was too broke to rob to pay paul. Or the nights that they spent alone because I worked a 3rd shift job, or the days spent bored because I had to sleep because of it.

I remember literally groveling in the president's office at Assumption because I was behind on the tuition. I literally was sobbing and begging. It all worked out, but was I wise to put my kids through this? There are some very good schools in Louisville. But I only wanted the "best" fit for my kids. Each went to the best school for them, but I can see where people would think that the sacrifices weren't worth it.

To my original point...the choice for public high school for my kids would have been Seneca. Compare Seneca to Manual. There's a huge disparity. Seneca is a good school, but Manual is a GREAT school. There is no "equal opportunity" in public schools. In rural areas, it's even more limited. A lot of what the opportunities are in education are what the schools OFFER. It's not only what the student does with what is offered. IMO, public education is a great, idealistic endeavor. But not all schools are the same, therefore, all opportunities are not the same.

To say all private schools are equal is disingenuous at best then.

That is correct.

RM, I once put my muffler back on with a coat hanger, too! Well, it was falling down and I pinned it back up.

I haven't met your kids, but I can almost bet that they have more character and self reliance and esteem because you did what you did for them. They have no doubt about how much that you love them!

Are you suggesting that I am not being truthful with my statement?

You have no idea since you don't know me. No reason to get sore because you walked right into proving what we were talking about. Your comments were classic class envy, as you noticed I wasn't alone in that assessment.

This is another perfect example. Never mind people worked hard to get where they are, let's call them lucky and "born" into it.

Ok I know enough about all the threads you start to know where you fall on the political spectrum. I am not sore I am just trying to carry on a debate which is very difficult to do on this site with how much it is dominated by NeoCon ideals. If anyone is sore it would be you IMO, you seem awfully bitter about having BHO as our President.

When did I say that no one worked hard and that everyone was born into it?? There are certainly a large population of folks who are born into money and have certain advantages. However many bust thier tales to get to where they are are are handsomely rewarded with a nice salary. So what is your problem with a progressive tax system? Has Rush and Sean hammered it in so much that you think a rollback of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans will bring a crashing hault to American civilization?

See, you're proving you really know nothing about me.

I'm no more bitter than you and many others on here were about Bush being our President. I can with him being POTUS, but I will be sure to call him out every time I think he's doing something wrong.

I don't listen to Rush or Hannity, again you're proving you know zero about me, I don't like either of them. I don't believe in class envy, the people Obama wants to nail with taxes already pay their fair share of taxes. And just so you know, I'm not one of them, I'm middle class.
