Blind Draw Blues

Featured Replies

What are some teams that are paying the ironic price of voting for a blind draw in their district? Or, how about some victims, if you prefer?

Several, just in the 11th Region, include:

Berea (15-10) got beat by Madison Central, while Madison Southern (2-22) is in the region.

In the 44th District, Lafayette (20-9), Dunbar (21-7) and Tates Creek (17-11) are all sitting at home.

Who are some other teams having nice records but are sitting at home because of the blind draw?

Looks to me like Lafayette, Dunbar, and Tates Creek are in the 43rd.

You have to beat Lex Cath and Lex Christian to advance. What is the difference in a blind draw in this case?

It does look like the 49th must be a blind draw. Jackson Co was best in the Region and drew Clay Co first round. They aint goin on.

All three had better records than LexCath. But in this case, it's their own fault because of the private school boycott by LFCPS.

Jackson Co. rolled up a nice record against suspect competition, and would never be confused for the best team in the 13th. But in their case, it's their own fault they're missing the region as well since they hold the tiebreaker vote in the 49th, and have insisted on keeping the blind draw. It cost them in boys last year, if I remember correctly.

All districts should seed. This didn't happen this year but last year NCC got sent home early because of the blind draw in the 36th. From what I hear the problem at least in our district is 2 coaches want to seed but the other 3 coaches want the blind draw because it is the only way that they are going to make it into the region tournament. If you are not going to seed then the regular season does not have a lot of meaning.

 Dittos! As a coach I believe I would pack my schedule with the strongest games I could find and help my players face the quality that will make the team better if a blind draw is the option I face. Wouldn't are about the W / L.

Even if the teams are seeded only the games played against in-district opponents count in the seeding process.

So, it does not matter what type of schedule you play. Your overall record has no bearing on the seeding.

Well... Mason County was turning into quite a good team at the end of the year, but they had a blind draw and drew the best team in the district for the first round (St. Patrick) and now are sitting at home during region. I think every district should seed so that you can truly say that the best teams went to region. I'm not saying that Mason was better than Bracken, or vice-versa, but technically they should have played each other the first round of district play if it were seeded.

What was so suspect about Jackson County's competition.

Played the top teams in the 13th.

Clay, North, South, Corbin, Harlan County, Whitley with the exception of Middlesboro.

Along with Rockastle, Wayne County, Breathitt County, Louisville Fairdale, Leslie county, Lexington Catholic, and East Jessamine.

The blind draw thing has been beat into the ground. Until all teams agree to play twice it's a mute point.

If you want to get on bandwagon why is the 49th being penalized with a five team district. It's a disadvantage for the three smaller schools. If I were Clay and North you'd be crazy not to seed because of numbers. The other three would be crazy to seed because of talent/numbers. Jc is about half the size of North/Clay with redbird/OBI being much smaller. It's a no-brainer.

I agree with you Jim.

If Jackson feels like they got a bad draw, then maybe they should vote to seed. I mean both Red Bird and OBI are Class A schools, but Jackson isn't.

The way I see it, it's their own fault.

Upon further review, it's not as bad as I thought on first glance. But the fact that they generally got drilled by the top-tier teams on their schedule does somewhat reinforce what I was saying that they would never be confused for the best team in the 13th.

It must not be as big a disadvantage as you're suggesting. It wasn't that long ago JC had one of the top girls teams in the state. And it's now two years in a row the blind draw has backfired on either the boys or girls team.

Maybe voting to seed isn't such a no-brainer after all.

As you said, the 43 District's public schools didn't help themselves in regards to the blind draw. They put up the boycott, thus meaning it was almost necessary since none of the three even played Lex Cath. Though, in the Lady Knight's defense, they did beat Dunbar head to head for the right to play in the region.

In the 53rd Knott Central was placed up against Letcher Central. The winner then faced June Buchanan. Three of the top teams in the region had to play each other in the first and second rounds. Which sent one of the worst teams in the region to the regional tournament.

Somebody posted in the boys forum that the 53rd was seeded.

If there isn't a tie. Tell this to East Carter in the boys thread.

The boys is seeded. The girls were not this year however they did vote to seed next year. The 53rd is like the 54th. The boys in the 54th blind draw as do the girls in the 53rd. Were as the boys in the 53rd and the girls in the 54th are smart and seed.
