Pikeville Bowl

Featured Replies

I heard Covington Holy Cross will be praticipating but don't know much about the bowl or the other praticipants does anyone know anything.

It is the Pike County Bowl. History goes back to the mid 80's where Pikeville and Belfry would invite quality teams from across the state to compete with them in a great night of football. Over the years the bowl complexion has changed a lot. Now all the Pike County teams participate, not just Pikeville and Belfry. Also Pikeville and Belfry play on opposing nights and switch opponents every other year. This makes scheduling tough because Pikeville and Belfry have been playing on different levels the last few years.

This year Pikeville plays Covington Holy Cross and Belfry plays Boyd County.

In 2010, Belfry will play Covington Holy Cross and Pikeville will play Boyd County.

Usually Belfry plays on Friday night and Pikeville on Saturday night.

I heard that HC plays Belfry

I am waiting for a format change before I make the drive to watch this one again.

What type of change are you looking for in the format?

What type of change do you want to see?

Each of the county teams play teams from around the state and not each other.

Some of the other county teams can't do what Belfry and Pikeville do each year. Every once in a while, maybe....but the other county schools would get whipped...

Fact is, who is going to drive back to the mountains to watch any of the other county schools play? I'd say no one. In fact, if Pikeville doesn't get it turned around...the entire bowl is in jeopardy.

I think there good be some games that would be good match ups and give other teams the chance to shine.

I agree with P-Ville going way down hill the draw of the bowl is even worse and if Belfry slides down this one would in big time trouble if it isn't already.

Covington Holy Cross played Pikeville last year and this year they play Belfry so it's not all county teams

Let me clarify what I attempted to say.

I do not like the set up of any of the county teams facing each other in this bowl game. Also, I want it brought back to the opening weekend.

Each of the county teams play teams from around the state and not each other.

Agree with this. Imo, it would make the Bowl more competitive and give each Co. team more opportunity to play more quality teams year in & year out. However, we (Pikeville) are going to have to get our coaching problems resolved or it is going to take its toll.

I agree with the coaching thing getting fixed.

I also think the teams Belfry and Pikeville have been facing have not made the drive for me worth other driving to Pike County either. Not taking anything away from those teams. It almost appears those who are making the match ups have lost interest in doing this. At least this is what I see.

Agree. This Bowl is not what it once was as far as the competition goes for both Pikeville & Belfry. I know that I wouldn't be exactly fond of driving from one end of the State to watch two Co. teams play. Imo, this Bowl could be what it was at one time if the Bowl Committee would use some imagination. However Pikeville still needs to get its coaching problems ironed out.

Agree on both parts.

I once posted on the Pikeville coaching thing that I thought they needed to hire someone from a far that has no ties to the school and that coach should have control of the football program from the 7th grade level up to the varsity.

This coach would have to be the type of coach that sets the parents straight on day one as far as him doing things his way and not the way they have been done in recent times.

If not Pikeville I.M.O. will drop down to where teams like Jenkins (no disrespect) find themselfs.
