I'm a big fan of how Coach Beatty brings his kids along throught the system. Yes Trinity looses the majority of their starters from last years team. However the Juniors that will step in as Seniors next season have been groomed to fill the void. On Defense, next years team will have all basically started together as Freshman, and two seasons as JV's. Not to mention playing the majority of snaps during the forth quarter for most Varsity games this past season. On offense, Kragthorpe benefited from playing every snap as a Sophomore on JV and was Smyth's backup on Varsity. Several Olinemen saw considerable action as Juniors and are ready to fill the void and Coach Beatty developed alot of depth at receiver as well. My only concern is at running back. Xavier Thomas has been a good one filling in for Tim Phillips and played well on JV, but who is going to back him up? Next years Junior class is very small in numbers (15-20 kids). The Sophomore class although talented as Freshmen, they're still just going to be Sophomores. They need time in the weightroom to mature and be able to compete with older stronger kids. Is there an Alex Kupper or Sam Robey in this bunch that can step up and play significant downs as a Sophomore? Time will definately tell. I know this incoming Senior class realizes they need to push the underclassmen to provide needed depth for them to go out as champions like the previous four classes. They realize the expectations and the legacy they have inherited from the classes that taught them and they are working very hard in the weightroom during the offseason to continue the tradition.
15-20 kids is way down, what has happened to this class? I know it was small to start but those are really low numbers.

I wish I knew the answer to that as well. You normally see a drop off from Freshmen year to Sophomore year but the Freshmen team normally has 80-100 kids. This class only had in the 60's and they were not very successful as Freshmen. The ones that have stuck it out are all quality kids and several will start, Kragthorpe, Nix, Meyer to name a few.

Is the Lewis kid(LB&DE as a soph) coming back next season? If not who are LB's and DE's next year

That's a whopper of a schedule! Could I hear some predictions from T fans of what kind or W-L record they expect Trinity to have for the regular season?

This was the group that carried over 5 lineman into their JV season. The lineman that remained are going to be able bodied and well tested. The skill kids are just fine. You understand a team can survive one class with lower than usual numbers as long as a talented group follows. Also, remember this group did not have Coach Wagner has a mentor. This was the year he took off to be with his family after their tragedy. Last season's frosh class we dovetail nicely with these sophomores and juniors. The staff and the seniors to be will not become fat cats.

7-3 at the worst. 10-0 isn't out of the realm of possibility. Somewhere in between is acceptable. Undefeated in the district is important to gain control of home field. Then the playoff season brings new opportunity for these players to make their legacy.

I would look for anywhere from 7-3 to 9-1 for regular season record...this team will have to find itself early to do the un-expected....I do look for an undefeated regular season, then hopefully another Beatty masterpiece.

I understand he is lifting and has a chance to earn his way back into the starting lineup.

Futrell & Shadowen are in line to start at LB. Holloway may man one end and Lewis at the other. McConnell & Ryan may be expected to step up in the defensive backfield. Meyer will play. He is a head hunter! Suggs is tough. Many of the sophomores to be will have the chance to contribute. The talent is there. The experience will be there by game 11!

Any ideas on OL and DL. Who will coach Oline next year? Dillon Kupper, Tadgh Reidy, Christian Paulino all started for parts of last season. Who will fill in at center and guard? On DLine, Danny Longshore, Tyler Hofer, Patrick Chandler and Robert Watson have basically started as a unit as Freshman, and two seasons on JV. They got alot of reps on Varsity as Juniors as well. Finding depth is going to be the challenge as the season goes on. I think we are going to see alot of experiments with players switching to the other side of the ball or even playing both ways in some spots. Coach Beatty has already got his soup pot out and has his ingredient list on the board. I think this is the most attractive schedule in years. There's no weeks off and I think it is going to make this team better by the end of the year.

I read JB's request for predictiions for the Rocks and was gonna reply, but he said Rock Fans, so I'll wait.

I'm interested, AL. What do you feel? I personally can see a 7-3 season, but hope all the pieces are there and in sync early enough to have a 10-0 season. However, Trinity builds and refines through the season, so I expect at least a couple of early losses.

Thanks for asking RM. To be honest there are several teams they are playing that I have no idea how these programs are. Four teams. I believe Eastern will be better, Ballard also. Manual replaces some skill positions, as do the Rocks. I'm thinking they will do fine, but the games might be closer.

I'm sure we will learn more later in the summer.

Since Trinity only returns 2-3 starters from 2008, who are the go to guys on both sides of the ball?

Is this likely Trinity's most demanding regular season schedule ever? How good is the Indiana team supposed to be this year?

Is this likely Trinity's most demanding regular season schedule ever? How good is the Indiana team supposed to be this year?

At first glance, this appears to be the most challenging with road trips to Cincy. The offensive prowess of the current regime is unmatched in Trinity's storied past.

The results of the 1985 season reflect several challenges. Trinity defeated Doss 6-0, Eastern 15-0, Holy Cross 16-14, & DeSales 2-0 during the regular season. Losses to Ballard 10-17 in OT and St. Xavier 9-10 were recorded that year, a 12-2 campaign. The tests continued in the playoffs. The Rocks defeated Fairdale 14-7, St. Xavier 17-14, and Male 26-24. The state final was a 28-7 over a favored Lafayette Generals team. All of those playoff games were played at the KFEC.

Trinity played two Cincy teams in the same year in 1997 and 1998. The Rocks were not very competitive in any of those games, losing the four contests by a 142-20 margin. The Bombers and Crusaders got the best of Trinity in 1997 and the Panthers and Bombers defeated the Rocks in 1998..
