9th Region POY?

Featured Replies

A lot more people get nominated for that than you think. Arrez Henderson was nominated for it last year as well.

Yeah no offense to McFarland he's a great player, but the nomination for McD's All American means virtually nothing.

As do I.

BTW, glad to see you're back buddy!! :thumb:

Glad to be back. This is MY favorite time of the year, would of been hard to miss out on all the chatter. I have to work tomorrow, hopefully you are heading to HC in the next hour or so, so you can get a seat and keep me posted.

 I plan on getting there around 4:15 to stand in line...weather is supposed to be nice today so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll send you updates throughout.

Maybe it means something to the player receiving the recognition. People can compare Mcfarland to the Holmes and other players all they want, but he has proven his talent as well as his responsibility as a student athlete this year, hence he will be at Georgetown and not Cinci State. Coaches voting and opinions are like polls, which are sometimes biased so who cares about their votes on POY. Whether he's player of the year or not he's a member/leader of a team that played Eastern, and Trinity (OT) to some close games and not to mention knocking off the #1 team in the state. In my humble opinion, he is just as good as the top candidates this year, maybe not as flashy, but he gets the job done.

Wow, no need for the comment regarding a former Holmes player who is at Cincy St playing college ball right now. Henderson is probably one of the nicest, most humble kids you'll ever meet and has nothing to do with this conversation. Whether it's Georgetown or Cincy St, he is still furthering his education which is the most important thing. BTW, pretty sure he'll be wearing blue and white here in about a year. :sssh:

As far as Mcfarland, playing teams close is nice, but the fact still remains, outside of the win against Holmes, he really didn't lead Boone to any signature wins this year. On the other hand, Ricardo led Holmes to SEVEN wins against top 25 teams, as well as a win over preseason, and current #1, Scott Co. I believe they're the only KY team who can say they did that. :sssh: Again, Mcfarland is a nice player but has accomplished no where near as much as Ricardo this year. If the Boone fans want to use ONE win as their "one shining moment," have at it...Don't get too caught up in the moment though...I have a feeling it's about to come to an end here in about two weeks. :thumb:

It's not a cheap shop at anyone, it's a fact. Every year there's kids that don't get where they belong because of certain inabilities, (I never mentioned his name, because that's not appropriate). I'm referring to the situation itself anyway, not a particular athlete. Mcfarland has taken big strides to get where he is on and off the court. I have learned that no one will ever match up to Holmes players according to some people, so no need in spinning that wheel. You bring a lot of comedy to this site Eta because you truly show your love for the Holmes program in a defensive mode whenever people speak a different opinion. If Ricardo is the top player you claim him to be he will get his free ride also, and I admire that no matter what team the kid comes from. It's kind of like "Can't We All Just Get Along":idunno: Boone isn't having a "shining moment", their having a "shining season", so Boone fans are caught up in the season, not the moment. If your feeling of it coming to an end comes true, that doesn't change the fact that they have played pretty well this year and Mcfarland has his free ride:isurrender:

It may not have been a "direct" comment toward Henderson but everyone knows who was being referred to when the comment "He'll be playing at Georgetown, not Cincy St...." was made, after referring to the Holmes players.

Nobody has said that no player will ever match up to the Holmes players, but we can't sit here and act like the recognition they get from OTHERS (not including me) isn't well deserved, considering Pittman and Rico could very well end up being two of the best players to ever come out of the 9th. Right now Pittman is ranked as the #1 prospect in KY for his position (#5 overall) and Rico the #1 overall prospect for the c/o 2010. IMO the DI POY award was well deserved considering the season he led Holmes to. At the beginning of the season, nobody thought this team would be entering the post season with just two losses and 7 wins over top 25 competition.

I agree that Mcfarland has come a long way and has improved tremendously since last year, and it showed in the Holmes game this year, but let's not act like just because of one game, all of a sudden he's the best player in the region when other players have been doing that all year against top competition. Mcfarland is no doubt solid though, so don't think I'm bashing the kid. As far as Boone, I'm actually glad to see them have the season that they're having. Coach Mcqueary caught a lot of criticism last year and this year after losses, and IMO none of it was deserved. Good luck in the region tournament. Hopefully we see another Holmes/Boone match up. :thumb:

FTR I love Mcfarland's game and I think he is a stud. I honestly thought he could have played somewhere even better than Georgetown possibly, but I understood his reasoning for going there. The comment about McD's All American was not a shot at the kid by any means... it's just a comment about how the nomination process for that works. You'd be surprised if you looked at some of the people who do and don't get nominated.

"Pittman and Rico could very well end up being two of the best players to ever come out of the 9th"

They are good, but that's a bold statement at this point. Let's see in 10 years if they go to the NBA and play several years on a championship caliber team like Dave Cowens or even if they are all America in college, like other old timers from the 9th have been. Will Pittman go to a juco for 2 years first?

If your feeling of it coming to an end comes true, that doesn't change the fact that they have played pretty well this year and Mcfarland has his free ride:isurrender:

Actually, McFarland is not getting a free ride. He will be paying some or possibly all his tuition at Georgetown since they do not give athletic scholarships.

Only NCAA Divison I & II programs give out complete free rides.
