I believe that Josh Crawford is the undoubtedly the Player of the Year since only seniors are considered. He does so many things for Corbin that helps elevate them to being one of the top 10-12 teams in the state. Remove him and insert any other 13th region senior and the Hounds would not be nearly as competitive state wide.

 

I agree Crawford does alot for the Hounds and is a good player, but Strange has to be consisdered he sure gets alot done and has no where near the players around him like Crawford. Either would be a good choice.

I took the initial question to mean Regional Tourney MVP, usually the highest scorer on the winning team.

 

If it's P.O.Y. that gets an All-Star Try-Out, I'd have to go with Crawford or Strange.

 

If it's MVP, then that's much more debatable.

If you are going on who means more to their team, I would say it would be Strange, St. John or Cody Miller. Take them away and the teams are only fair.

 

If it goes to the best player on the best team it's Crawford.

 

If it goes to most complete, I would say Crawford gets it too.

 

The Corbin in me wants to say Crawford as I think he probably is the best player. However, part of me is wanting to say Strange. I think if you put him on a team like Corbin, he would be 1st team all state and Corbin would probably be sitting at 26-0 and ranked #1 in Kentucky. Put him on South Laurel, they'd be neck and neck with Corbin. Put him on KC, they'd be right up there too.

If you take Strange from Pineville, I don't think they would considered "fair."

You are right. Central and South are the teams who would only be fair without St. John or Miller. Id say Pineville is only a fair team with Strange carrying the load. I just lumped them all three together.

You have to throw Seidel in the mix here. Without him, I am not sure how many games North would have won this season. He is one of the best players in the region. However, in all likelihood, it goes to a player from one of the better teams in the region.

When Corbin plays teams that can really bring the full court pressure, such as a Lex. Cath, Crawford is the one who had to break the pressure. When he was out of the Lex Cath game or not the one bringing it up against their press, Corbin was outscored by 15-20 points and when he was handling their press Corbin outscored them by 20 or so. I honestly think that Pineville would be just as good or better if they traded and Corbin would not be as good, although I think Strange is an extremely good player and the #2 senior in the region.

 

The main difference between Crawford and any other player in the region is the fact that Crawford makes those around him better with his passing ability and is probably the best in the region at it. He creates opportunities for his teammates, scores when needed, rebounds, plays defense and is the leader of the team. Corbin will be hard pressed to fill his void next year.

Strange from Pineville gets my vote.

If you're only looking at seniors, then Strange and Crawford are your top dogs, but Josh Smith, Josh Seidel, Jonah Mitchell and the Caldwell kid from Harlan County. Heck, you can throw in Jacob Teague and Aaron Cunningham, too. Zachary had a better season last year.

1. Crawford

2. Strange

3. Seidel

4. Zachary

5. Smith

Josh Smith is better than Zachary ... IMO.
