Preachit Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I wanted to post this in this forum even though th source is actually a girls' coach. Coach guffey of GCHS drives his own bus to away games. How often has this occured? Did it occur more often a few decades ago? Do any other coaches do this?
Ram Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 One of Raceland's girls coaches drives the team bus.
JPP Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 It's not as rare as you might think. It solves a lot of logistic problems on knowing when the bus will arrive, etc. Without this several county systems may have to wait an hour or more to wait on a driver to finish their route.
3wishes Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 A lot of schools also require that you get CDL certified in order to drive your own bus so it can save on the school budget. These schools dont pay the driver/coach either. Some counties have unions though where the bus drivers have to drive and get paid.
Jim Schue Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Steve Wright's been known to drive the South Laurel bus on occasion ...
STRIKE3 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Often a Coach or a member of the Coaching Staff, have their CDL certification to drive. Bus Drivers are a premium during Basketball, given boys, girls, freshmen and middle school games.
DADDY CAT Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I have seen Coach Mitchell drive LC's bus from time to time.
Dlbdonn Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Jenny Mertle NCC's former softball and volleyball coach has done this for years with the teams that she has coached at there . She drove the bus down and back to Mt Sterling 3 nights in a row this past fall during the 10th region volleyball Tournament . She will continue to do this now that she is retired from coaching . Those CDL licsenses are precious .
