The players of the game were Bovard and Sutton. They dominated the HHS defensive backs all day. They were just too tall and too fast.

 

Not really that I recall. I don't think that Sutton had more than one or two catches that game (he did hurt us a lot in the playoff game however) and Bovard probably didn't have more than 4 catches prior to the last drive that won the game for CovCath. Flynn did have a big catch in that game from the left tight end spot.

 

It really wasn't Bovard and Sutton's speed that caused problems (I don't think that anyone including Peter would say he had real blazing speed) but their height sure did present some matchup problems.

 

Other than the last drive when Bovard had the two big catches, it was CovCath's running game by Brown that gave the Highlands D more problems. Brownie had a whale of a game both on O and D.

I have to agree Brown had a great game and a lot of the credit goes to his oline. CCH's oline just dominated that year led by 4 seniors and a junior.

I wouldn't say that they were dominating, very good but not dominating. As CCH5432 said, I can why you would say this.

Here's a question: what was the difference between this game (a two-point win by CCH at HHS on a last-second TD pass that had to be thrown perfectly, and was) and the playoff rematch a few weeks later (which CCH won by 10 points at CCH)? I seem to remember hearing that HHS didn't look nearly as sharp in the rematch as they did in the first game.

 

Did home-field advantage play a serious role in how different these two games went, or did CCH gain a lot of confidence when they beat HHS during the regular season, allowing them to fully play to their potential (which was great, given the talent on that CCH squad)?

As I remember, Highlands kicking game, especially punting, was absolutely terrible that game. They might have averaged 15 yards per punt. One if I remember right was about 5 yards. They gave CovCath great field position the whole game. Also Brown's interception on the first drive after halftime was a huge momentum boost for CovCath.

Blesser had a big game- it was a well-rounded effort from the receivers and TE's- the two mentioned, Wise, Flynn, Ganshirt, and I think Hennessey had a catch or two as well.

Highlands had at least 2 or 3 interceptions in the playoff match, as well.

Two of the greatest high school football games I've ever witnessed have been between these two teams. And the only thing that icks me off is that we lost both of them. :irked:

This was a great game played by two very talented teams. Having been at the game and watching it again several times on tape, this game was enteraining from start to finish. This may have been the best High School game I have ever witnessed since it had a little bit of everything that makes up good high school football. The 1997 Mud Bowl was a great come back game for Cov Cath, but it was only enteraining during the 4th quarter. The 2006 game was good from start to finish. I still do not understand the squib kick everytime HHS kicked off, but I am grateful that they did, that was the deciding factor in that game, from my seat.

Me too....We're Highlands Football and shouldn't be scared that someone is going to run a kickoff back on us. If so, then get someone else in the game that can get it done. Way too many good players on Highlands Football team to worry about if someone is going to get a good return on us. As I see it, CovCath's return team did an awesome job of field position. I still feel sick about it....:puke: Sure it was a great game between 2 very evenly matched teams and came down to the last play but why would Highlands help the situation. One will never know...
