The Hall of Fame IMVHO has more stuff about Pete Rose than any other player who is even enshrined on the wall except for the Babe. You can hardly move around the place without seeing Pete except where they hang the plaques of the Hall of Fame players.

While Rose isn't enshrined their are many mentions and items that are Rose relics, if you will. He still deserves to be enshrined. This was more about MLB proving a point. Pete Rose was one of the top 3 players to ever play the game!

BTW I wouldn't call them relics as I remember watching him play in his rookie year in Crosley Field! I mean I am old, but not that old.....:lol:

I very much agree that gambling on the game while you are still part of the game - whether as a player or manager or whether you bet for or against your team - is a serious offense that attacks the integrity of the game.

 

 

Absolutely not! The man is a lowlife loser, who only admitted to betting on baseball to sell a book. He broke a rule that had been in place for a long time, and needs to pay the price. If guys that do steroids aren't allowed in, neither should this loser. The fact that so many people in Cincinnati are such big fans of Rose is an embarrassment to the city.

 

Rose is no-doubt an unpolished and unrepentent hillbilly. Not so sure about "lowlife loser." Clearly his apology wasn't sincere, though I don't think that should have any real bearing on whether he deserves to be reinstated. Lots of people have issued teary-eyed and touching apologies for actions they'd do again in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it. Pete just doesn't have the brains or style to know how to fake his way through such an apology. I don't like Rose as a person, but respect and admire what he did as a player and am not at all embarassed to say so. No one in the history of the game accomplished more with less talent than did Rose.

 

Personally, I think it's time to put Rose on the ballot and let the voters and his peers decide his ultimate fate. Frankly, I don't think they will ever vote him in.

He played harder than anyone and has the most hits in the HISTORY of the game. All I am saying is put him on the ballot and let the voters decide. If the players guilty of using steriods are not banished for life, then he shouldn't be either. Steriods improve players ablilities on the field and what Rose did had ZERO effect on the outcome of games. Steriods has made a much bigger impact than Rose ever has and its time for the MLB to stop being stubborn and at the very least put him on the ballot and give him the same chance steriod users have.

He admitted to betting on baseball while he was a manager, that was specifically against the rules while he was doing it. He doesn't deserve it, IMO. On the flip side, I don't feel that the steroid users deserve in, BUT they were doing something that was not against baseball's rules.

Criminals receive life prison sentences also, yet they get chances for parole. What Rose did was wrong and he knew it was wrong. He has been punished. I don't agree that the only appropriate punishment is a lifetime ban.

As a manager you would get inside info that the betting public wouldn't get and as the manager your trust to manage your team not to control a huge bet, well that trust can't be compared to taking a drug to help with an injury.

 

Mark Mcguire shouldn't be in right now, he has to pay his dues. Pete as a player has paid his dues and should go in.

I'm just not sure what that has to do with anything. He was never accused of that, nor did they find any evidence of it (and I am certain they looked for it - I actually vaguely knew the lead IRS investigator). Betting while a player is not why he is banned, so I'm just not certain it's relevence.

Gambling or not he still deserves to be in the HOF. As a player Rose was one of the toughest, hard nosed, gritty players the game has ever seen. Rose had raw talent and he is more than deserving of his RIGHTFUL spot in the HOF.

 

WHo cares if he bet on games. People gamble on sports everyday if they didn't Las Vegas, Atlantic City and the likes would be out. I GUARANTEE Rose is not the only person that has bet on the game while being a coach, player or otherwise affiliated with a Major League team. He just got caught. He's paid his dues and he still deserves to be in the HOF.

 

UKMustang Fan as to your comment of he "only admitted to betting on baseball to sell a book" well isn't that the same thing Jose Canseco, Jeremy Giambi and the rest of the "Roid Crowd" are doing right now. They are only admitting to taking steroids to sell books and I'm sure Canseco will end up in the Hall at some point whther it be due to his accomplishments as a player or his uncanny ability to pump himself up with steroids and become friends with another steroid user and join the team of the "Bash Brothers.(Canseco/McGwire)" Look at Joe Torre's book where he constantly whines and complains about how terrible his years with the Yankees were and how all his players were prima donna's. He wrote a book and will profit from yet as a manager he is still great and will get into the HOF.
