I spoke to a guy yesterday who was at the Paintsville & APB state championship game in 96'. His question or statement to me was where has all the talent gone to up & down highway 23? He mentioned APB, Boyd, Greenup, Russell specifically. His thoughts were schools thtat size should at least be competitive each year. Anyone have any thoughts?

Student athletes have other opportunities nowdays. Many don't want to work as hard as it takes so some of the most talented kids don't even play sports or because all coaches think their sport is the ONLY sport many are forced to make a choice. At Ashland football seems to be more of an attraction.

 

Anything can happen tournament time. We've all seen upsets every year.

Todays kids, if they play pick-up ball at all don't have the likes of Steve Skaggs,Pickle Farrow,Johnny Jones,Doug and Allen Smith,Davey Wooten, Roger Gillum, and a host of others to hone your skills against. You found out real quick what worked and what did'nt. The Ashland and Russel YMCA'S had some of the best pick up ball to be found any where in the 80's and 90's. Any day of the week there was top notch competition to be found some where. You don't get better playing against other High School KIds! Sorry, I know this was off the thread.

Thanks Big week for Ashland IMO if they can beat either West or East then payback Russell I think they could get on a roll and maybe even win the 64th, especially the way Fairview is playing now. On the other hand if they lose all 3 this week (which could happen) I think then they could be one and done in the 64th. So I think this is their biggest week of the season.

Very impressive win by Bath County. Metz is the strongest and toughest player in the 16th region IMO. He has been fun to watch on the court and on the football field.

I think you are exactly right on with your observation 16th BBF! The Tomcats have a golden opportunity laid out before them. Hope they grab the bull by the horns.
