Holmes 56 Newport Central Catholic 44

Probably not as close though as the margin might indicate?

I'm confused. Eta says a 14 point game wasn't as close as the score might indicate yet the biggest lead was 18 and it was only 9 with 1:24 to play.

The game really wasn't that close. Considering the minutes Pittman played and Holmes slowed the ball down the last 3 or 4 mins, I'd say they could have easily won by 20+ if he plays more and Holmes keeps running late in the game. The only thing that kept NCC in the game was their hot shooting from outside and Holmes slowing it down, which limited their offensive possessions. Holmes dominated in pretty much every facet of the game. Unless you were there, I wouldn't really try to jump to conclusions.

Boone/Holmes will be a good game. Didn't Boone beat them last week?

Yea. I believe Boone beat them by either 12 or 14?

Honestly I was not that all impressed with Holmes tonight. I know this game does not mean much, but I have seen NCC lose to better teams. Boone being one, and Shelby Valley Being the other. If Holmes doesn't pick it up, they may not make it out of NKU. I thought Holmes would win it all, but I am definately having 2nd thoughts.

Maybe not to you but they have beaten a wide variety of good teams like Scott County, Ballard and Bryan Station.

I just felt going into this game Holmes was 20-25 points better than NCC especially at home. Maybe I'm reading to much into margin of victory but Boone beat NCC by 18 and another top team in state Shelby Valley beat them by 19. I just feel that if Holmes is going to be in the hunt for a state title they should be beating teams by bigger margins than they are winning by. I just don't think their offense is clicking on all cylinders and that worries me.

I agree. Last years team as soon as they get a double digit lead, here comes a new five without a drop off. This year you only see seven. Arnold and the other sophmore guard are the keys. You know what you will get from R.J ,J.J, Riley, and Pittman.

Pierre Mayfield has been giving Henley some solid mins defensively to spell Riley and keep him fresh offensively. Defensively, they can go 8 deep with no drop off. Lately Henley has been subbing Riley at the end of each quarter, along with Pittman to put in Mayfield and Arnold to keep the big 2 fresh for late in the game. Also another reason Holmes has started pressing more recently.

Who is #30 for the JV squad?

I think you're reading in to it too much. Pittman only played around 20 minutes tonight and Holmes slowed the ball down the last 4 minutes. If they continue to run like they had the whole game, it turns in to a blow out. NCC also shot VERY WELL from outside.

I believe Naire (sp?) Jones. He's a sophomore.

I'd like to see the stats. Holmes shot pretty lights out tonight themselves. They started off 4/5 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. I know they are good but they don't always shoot that well.

Any speculation on how he might grow? He is maybe 6'2" now. Very smooth player.

I'd say he'll end up around the same size as Rico (6'4-6'5 range). He is built very similar to Rico last year as a soph only a little thicker.

He could be another stud. I'm surprised I haven't heard much about him. He had a great first step. He handles the ball well as a lengthy wingman. Also has the ability to pull up and shoot well off the dribble. I was somewhat impressed with the youngman.

Mayfield's a player. I watched him a lot for Two Rivers. He will be big next year for Holmes. I also think Slusher could be productive in limited minutes this year.

These were my thoughts exactly. I was totally impressed when Holmes beat Scott Co., but this was not the same team.:idunno:
