I was very impressed with Dempsey at the Border Bowl on defense but I think his best postion would be offense. He lacks the explosive play, to be a D-1 D-lineman. I think he could play in time but that is most likely the reason colleges are shying away considering his lack of size. I though he played 110% on every play in the games I saw him in. I wish him luck in the future with what ever he chooses.

It is so difficult to have the right combination of size and desire. Hopefully someone will overlook Adam's perceived shortcomings and give him a chance.

I hate to say it but this is the coach's fault. Recruiting gets more and more competitive each year and the coach needs to market his players. The days of sitting back and waiting for schools to come to you are over. I wish the best for Adam, Tony and the rest of the kids around the state in their situation. It is a shame that quality kids with good grades don't have a home yet.

A high school head coach - especially one at a school like HHS - has A LOT on his plate. This is not his fault. First of all, one has to seriously question if he is indeed a D-1 calibre player. He's a fine player, but if he was a legit D-1 prospect, the D-1 schools would have found him - especially at a school like Highlands. Secondly, there are things a player can and should be doing to market themselves - making their own contacts and attending camps - to get themselves noticed. To throw this all on the coach is unfair.

I have heard that he is looking at some Ohio MAC schools. Maybe someone could confirm/deny that?

How do you know that the Highlands coach didn't and isn't marketing Adam and Tony? That's a wreckless statement to thow out there without having any facts to support your shot at the finest coach in Kentucky... Throughout the recruiting season there are recruiters lined up outside of the coach's office waiting to talk to prospects. I am very confident that they met any and all D1 recruiters that walked the halls of HHS this Fall and Winter. Besides... Adam and Tony got their hands on the highest quality highlight tape in Kentucky to help market their many talents...

 

Cooperstown nailed my sentiments... the athlete has to help market himself to play in the venue that best suits his talents. Be it D1, D2, D3 or NAIA.

This has always been a very positive side of Coach Mueller that you do not hear and/or see out of a lot of coaches. In regards to recruiters being lined up outside of the office, that is not a positive for any team in regards to distractions and team goals that have been set. Letters to individuals and phone calls is a different ball game. The Birds play one game at a time, as a team, and not individually. Great things will take place for Tony and Adam! The coach and fathers will ensure that takes place. They are their biggest fans and should be! Good luck to both young men.

The job of the head football coach at Highlands is to provide strong, positive adult influence and leadership for his student-athletes (which Mueller does) and to build outstanding football squads on a yearly basis (which Mueller also does).

What's your point? I stated mine and I think we all agree that its not Dale's lack of effort in helping seniors play at the next level. You just posted that you know its not from the lack of attending camps this past summer...

Dempsey not getting a D-I offer to-date has nothing to do with his ability to play high-level football, his grades, his heart, or the lobbying efforts of his coach... it has everything to do with his size, I suspect.

 

From everything I've heard and read, it sounds like the Dempsey kid is a winner, top to bottom. I wish him the best in his post-high school endeavors, and as a Highlands alumus, I want to thank him for his commitment to Highlands High School and the football program, so that guys like me can walk around North Carolina sporting my Highlands tee-shirts and sweatshirts with pride! Go 'Birds!
