The fact is, they could keep the taxes the same and try to reduce the out of control spending that is going on in Washington with the Republicans (then) and the Democrats (now).

Sorry but your reaching. I am no where close to an Obama supporter but raising the tax on tobacco is not a tax on the middle class. It is a tax on anyone who chooses to buy tobacco products. He is actually taxing himself since Obama smokes like a freight train.

Last time I checked air is free....for now.

Yep, all those are the same as a pack of smokes. Got it.

 

It is a luxury tax. Nobody needs to smoke, people need shelter, people need heat, people need clothing, people need transportation, people need to make a living, nobody NEEDS to smoke and as a matter of fact people NEED to NOT smoke.

 

A middle class smokers' taxes will not go up, but the tax on cigarettes will.

SO...

 

I'd like to point out the 500 lb gorilla in the room...

 

How are we going to maintain funding on what is the newest government entitlement program when everyone quits smoking and there's no more cigarette taxes to be collected?
