I believe what you are seeing is in part inexperience AND lack of Sr. leadership. Kowolonek, Watson, and Grote played significant minutes last year (as Sophs) and Kowolonek played in one game as a Frosh........the rest had basically no varsity coming in to the season. The bigger factor I believe, is the relative inexperience at leading a team through a season. The bottom line is they are young and have no experienced leadership (Senior) at this level. Example, Beechwood's senior leadership picked them up at their OT win against HHS. As for the second Conner game, HHS mentality, "been there beat them" kinda walk through it a little without senior leadership. HHS will really be tested down the stretch as they do need to create some urgency to win this year with all Jrs. who can't rest on "wait til next year."

 

As for Conner, I'm sure they (and their Srs.) looked at HHS and stepped up their game feeling like they were capable of beating them....and obviously are. Conner is a good team, they are disciplined, play tough D the entire game, and are a dangerous shooting team. They also have decent size (ht. not bulk) and handle the ball well. Don't be suprised to see them in the Regional at the expense of a Boone or Ryle. Congrats to the Cougars on a nice W !

I don't understand the reaction of "Leadership", who are the Captains?

This team, without Seniors, is doing remarkable, #2 in the rankings and only posting some 5-losses. Other Senior laden teams have not faired so well. The Birds are fortunate to have such a talented Junior class. A #2 ranking is hardly the cry of a building year.
