There are 81 current members of the KHSAA that have never won a boys regional basketball championship. They are listed below. You'll notice that many are tiny private schools, some are small independent schools, and a few are schools that have only been open for a few years. What is surprising is the number of "larger" county schools that in their entire history have never won a title. Interesting!

I wouldn't be surprised if Garrard, West or East Jessamine broke that streak THIS year.

 

That's a possibility. I know East lost in the 11th Region finals once (and maybe a second time) and West lost in the 12th Region final last season. So they've been close. Of course before they split, Jessamine County won the 11th Region in 1990, so it hasn't been that long for the folks in Nicholasville.

 

Garrard, on the other hand, has been waiting for some time. Buckeye, Camp Dick, Lancaster, Mason and Paint Lick consolidated in the fall of 1964 and the Lions have never won a regional title. In fact, they've never played for a regional championship. The best Garrard has done in 45 years are five trips to the regional semifinals (1970, 71, 77, 79 and 82).

Wow great job in compiling the list. I believe there are 270 or so schools competeing in the KHSAA so roughly 30% have never been. That does mean approx 70% have been at some point...

Owsley County was runner-up in 1983 and 1985, but just can't seem to get over the hump.

I wasn't too pleased with the officiating in the 1983 tournament championship game at Hazard Memorial :isurrender:, but of course that's my opinion as a fan craving a trip to the Big Show. I suppose Breathitt County's fans were not disappointed with the stripes at all.

 

When you have a small school like we do you don't get those chances very often and you have to make it count when you do.
