Just in case we lose power.....

Featured Replies

Here at the Coldweather adobe, power has been out for 41 hours now. We're good to go though. Ventless fireplaces keep us warm. Gas stove let's us cook. Generator gives us 40 amp of service, so all of the neccesities are covered. We've got 30 gallons of gas so we're good for 5 more days.

Unfortunately, the Mercer water company has lost power, and we have been without water since we got up this morning. Boys have to go outside. Have about 40 gallons of water for cooking and to keep the toilettes going for when you can't go outside.

Lost power Tuesday about 5:30 pm,came back on Wed. 11:00 pm,went back off today at 1:30pm and just now about 20 minutes ago came back on. So good to be back on BGP again.:dancingpa

I lost all power at my apartment in Richmond so I decided to head down to Rockcastle to stay with some family. It was very cold at my apartment last night lol.

A friend of mine has been staying with her friends in the dorms there at EKU since the other night because her place still doesn't have electricity. She said that although she likes hanging out with her friends, she'd like to spend some time at her place so she doesn't have to depend on others.....which, to me, is totally understandable.

How is that Basil Hayden? Never tried it....

I'll answer. In my best Al Pernel voice: it's goooooooooood!

But I'd rather have Woodford or Blanton's.

I had to leave my house on Wednesday...no electricity, no wood stove, no generator. I did procure a kerosene heater and will be returning there today and if my water hasn't frozen, I am going to run the heater for awhile to try to get a little heat back in the pipes. If it has frozen, I won't go back until I have power.

I'm most worried about my mother. She has major medical issues (that are all currently under control and have been for a while, but I still worry) and refuses to leave her house. Her ex-husband is staying there with her (to put it mildly, he and I do NOT get along, therefore the reason that I am not staying with her also). She is using a kerosene heater and the house is in the 60's, but I still worry. I am taking her warm food twice a day. I also took my carbon monoxide detector from my house to hers, so hopefully that would alert them if there were a problem.

I also took my pets (2 cats) to be boarded at my vet's office until I have heat again. No use putting them through the cold when they can easily be warm - also keeps me from having to go check on them.

I guess my biggest problem comes in battling feeling helpless and getting depressed. I still worry about my mother constantly, it seems. I also worry about what a mess busted pipes would be, though I know that my dad will come in from Colorado and fix everything once it warms up. I know that I am in a MUCH better position than many, many people. There are whole counties in KY that do not have power, water or a phone and are running out of fuel. I am very afraid for these people. Some places are being estimated at 3 weeks until they restore power. All I can do is pray for them.

Even though I am in a nice warm place every night, I find that I can barely sleep because of the worry. Over the past two nights, I may have slept 5 hours combined. I worry about what a new snow storm would mean for everyone. Of course, at least it won't be ice.

You will be in my prayers that God can send some peace about the situation your way.

Lost Power Tuesday @ 8:00 am. Still without! I have been staying at the house to keep an eye on things. It is down to 40 degrees inside the house. Wake up to that and trust me, IT IS COLD!

Bring on the power!

I was without power for 6 days in the fall, now this?!?!?! You would have thought I might prepare with a generator, or heaters or fans or something. Not quite smart enough!

I'm with you. I was going to buy a generator (and one for my mother) after Ike came through...but I didn't. Now I could kick myself. Keep warm, Footballisking. You have to be buried under blankets when you are there.

Just returned from my house. The temp inside is 34.5 degrees. Currently, all of my water is still running and okay. I have a plumber (if he can dig himself out of his driveway) that is going to try to come and drain and blow the pipes. Anyone else doing this or have done this before?

Still no power. Got water back though. I can live without the electricity, but having no water really stinks.

I was always told to turn one on at a slow level to keep the water moving in the pipes. Helps prevent them from freezing. Also, if you know where the water valve that comes into your house is, turn it off and then turn on the faucets to drain the water out.

Literally

I prefer it over Woodford...but Blanton's is better. Regardless, it is a good bourbon.
Use the time without electric to; do taxes, scrapebooks, clean the house, organize closets, play card games, read books, and just sit and talk with friends.

Ice storm related slip?

Also, one can tell you've been married a long time because there was no mention of sex in your list of "things to do when the power of out".:banana:
