I don't know what I think about this

Omama's First Interview on Arab Network.

Comments?

Is anyone else disturbed by this line?

"What I told him is start by listening, because all too often the United States starts by dictating," Obama told the interviewer.

I wonder how I'll look in a tuban?

So listening is not a good thing? :idunno:

I'm still not feeling warm and comfy about the whole situation.

Certainly there should be no listening to anyone anywhere. If Canada doesn't agree with a decision we make, they are our enemies.

I thought that the end of the article was interesting - the notion that Bin Laden and his network fear Obama removing the idea that the US is the enemy to all Arabs.

You're last sentence seems to negate your title thread.

The "I don't know how to feel" stems is uncertainty about whether I feel anger or fear that Obama chose this forum as his first interview since becoming president. I had little doubt before Obama was inaugurated that we were going to try to appease the Arab world thus the turban comment.

Is Obama so naive that he really believe that regardless of what he or any of his mouthpieces say that he can make the Arabs that currently want our way of life wiped off the map start to feel differently?

Not to petty dictators and maniacal zealots.

When we have to lament over the first suitcase nuke in NYC or the like, we'll probably refer back to this interview and his affinity for making peace with folks who have no desire to make peace. Just a thought.

Not all Arabs are terrorists, not even close. I think some of you need to take a step back and be a bit less fanatical. If we want to address the root causes of terrorism we need to start with engaging the developing world. Sabre rattling is merely better propaganda for the extremists.

He probably won't change their thinking but he might be able to get the more moderate Arab leaders to feel they are part of a diplomatic process rather than being "spoken to."

Surely you aren't suggesting that all Arab leaders are the above? The reality is there are many who are not and the hope is to bring them on board as part of the solution rather than a funnel for us to pour down our power on them.

 I think this is what I'm trying to get at, particularly the first 2 sentences.

And what exactly will that have accomplished?

The moderate Arab leaders pay lip service to condemning the militants now.

I don't think that I in any way shape or form said that all Arabs were terrorists but I do think that those that aren't could more actively help eliminate those that are.

Appeasemet is also a propaganda tool for the militants as evidenced by the Hamas reaction to the Israeli cease fire in Gaza. They are claimimg it as a victory.

And again what will that accomplish. The militants have shown no interest in respecting the wishes of Arab leaders that disagree with their point of view. In fact if I'm not mistaken some of those more moderate leaders have been "dealt with" by the militants have they not?
