While it could end up being a "jump ball" its not automatically. Its actually a Point of Interruption scenario. So, in this case, had the shooter made the shot and one official called a PC foul and the other called a block the basket would count and the other team would get the ball OOB regardless of the arrow.

 

So, no basket, jump ball.

Basket and it counts and defense gets ball.

Over a season of 12 home games, that would be $540 for the boys side. And $540 for the girls side. (Remember Title IX). An extra $1,080 per season. Pretty nice chunk of change.

Offense would keep the ball (I think) if the block charge happened on a non-shooting play. POI is the offense with the ball so it would not go to the arrow.

I don't like the three man crew. the benefit (if there is one) isn't worth the extra expense. The two man crew would work fine if the officials would just call a foul when they see one and not wait to see the result of the foul. An example is a bump on the base line and the foul is only called if the player looses the ball or falls out of bounds.

 

There would be a lot of long nights if every "bump" was called.

For awhile and then the coaches would quit teaching the physical play that is out there and the game would change back from the physical wars that are happening on the court.

It is absolutely amazing the perception that a basketball official gets here on BGP:isurrender:

 

I have friends that officiate here in the state of KY. They tell me we are years behind in Officiating in KY because of the fact the KHSAA has not mandated 3 man crews throughout the regular season. Every state around us has been using 3 man crews for a while. If this is the case, it is very sadening as we are suppose to be one of the so called Basketball States and should be in the forefront of everything Basketball. We have the GREATEST SHOW IN HOOPS, The KHSAA National City state tournament. It uses 3 man crews and has for several years. Has it always had the best officiated games, I would be the first to say NO. WHY? Because our officials around the state do not or have not had the opportunity to officiate a whole season using 3 man crews. If this were the case, I am sure the officials would have more looks and plays in the 3 man system, and just like a basketball team, would get better as the season goes on. :irked:

 

They tell me alot of the problems that most fans complain about, is that they do not understand the 3 man system. Just because an Official is closer to a play does not mean it is his/her area. Take a play where there is an official on the baseline and and another near mid court. The ball is at the 28 foot mark being closely guarded. The offensive player makes a move and drives to the basket and gets fouled by the definsive player. The foul is called. most fans think it should be called by the official on the baseline. Incorrect. The out official near mid court has the call as this is the Primary area for that official. now if that official passes on the call or does not get a good look then the baseline official will make it as it becomes his secondary call.

 

Yes These guys and gals are not perfect and no one ever will be, but these people go out every night and do their best. No not every night is perfect on the court but there is not many of them out there thoes not give 100% every night.

 

If more fans would learn the rules and understand more of the officiating principals, these same people on here that are complaining, would then understand the game more.:thumb:

If you want to see the incredible performance out of a three man crew that you see from the two man system, it has to be practiced the entire season. Also, if you want the fans and players to get used to how the game is called, they need the added experience as well. This starts not only with Varsity games, but also with the upper half of JV.

 

As far as "missed calls" and "waiting to see what happens", I think you need to look for consistency throughout the game. Perhaps what is perceived as missed in a three man system would not have been called anyway or would have been called erroneously in a two.

 

Another key are the GI's (Game Interruptors). A wide reaching movement is coming down the pike to eliminate these fouls where the player fouled did not lose his or her advantage.

Ok, so after thinking about it briefly this is how it is....

 

The treatment of officials on BG Preps has deterioirated over the last year. If ANYONE wants to become an official, please let me know and I'll personally work with you to register for next season.

 

For the rest, please try to understand the following (for MOST officials):

Most refs:

1) want to see players and teams play their best game every night.

2) couldn't care less about who wins.

3) routinely attend games they are not working in an effort to better themselves. Most also look at the schedule and pick the best game to go to, not a specific team.

4) attend training and summer camps in an effort to better themselves.

5) spend countless hours actually reading the rules (yes I know you may not agree).

6) talk to each other about specific situations, to better understand how and why the rules are what they are.

7) spend time with younger (tenured) officials to help them get better.

8) make less money working a Varsity game than they could in a lesser gym on any given night.
