Southern Gentleman Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Final per KHSAA at the Colt Classic in Nicholasville
REH5 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 West Jessamine was led by Jarrod Polson with 51 points including 30 of 37 from the free throw line.
REH5 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 37 fouls called on LexCath, 23 called on West Jessamine. West Jessamine was 43-55 from the free throw line and LexCath was 16-22 from the free throw line. Jonathan Rehner added 24 points and 10 rebounds for WJ. Vee Sanford led LexCath with 32 points.
PurplePride92 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Wow. This brings to mind the post I read earlier about LC being one of the best teams in the 11th when their press is working and Sanford is on they can play with anyone and when one of these factors is off, they would lose to Scott County by 20. 51 points, I bet his parents and school are really proud. Probably will be the biggest win of his high school career. Congrats to Polson and West Jessamine on what is always a good win over a school the caliber of Lexington Catholic.
Neutralbutbiased Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 West Jessamine was led by Jarrod Polson with 51 points including 30 of 37 from the free throw line. W J shot 55 freethrows. I think they made 45. Congrats to West Jesamine. They shoot freethrows well:thumb: Lex Cath shot 22, I think they made 16. West Jesamine misses 11 more freethrows they would have lost, but they stepped up and drained em, 45:thumb: Again congrats to WJ and good luck the rest of the year:thumb:
All In Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 West Jessamine was led by Jarrod Polson with 51 points including 30 of 37 from the free throw line. This has to be some kind of a record for free throw attemps in a game, was there bad blood between the two teams for the referees to call a game so close, had to be a boring game to watch no matter who won.
PurplePride92 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I can't imagine watching someone score 51 and his teammate score 24 being boring and a guy from the other team scores 32. Both teams score over 90. I can't imagine that game being boring regardless of how many points came from the free throw line.
OhYeaYouThink Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 WOW congrats to WJ, and congrats to Polson!
region12hoops Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Not even close, Powell Co. hit 70-89 free throws against Shawnee in 1972. 55 free throws is tied for 8th. The 30 free throws made and 37 attempts by Polson I think are new state records for a game by an individual.
PurplePride92 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 So is the 12th region really down is is parity just running rampant? I know most people will say it's down, I think it's parity. This is a big win for West Jessamine.
Voice of Reason Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 West Jessamine was led by Jarrod Polson with 51 points including 30 of 37 from the free throw line. OK, we need more details on this game. I have never heard of any player on any level shooting 37 free throws in a game. Since he went 30-37 it couldn't have been "hack-a-shaq" strategy. Can someone explain this? Lex Cath must play a lot of players to foul that much.
SKINPIG Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 OK, we need more details on this game. I have never heard of any player on any level shooting 37 free throws in a game. Since he went 30-37 it couldn't have been "hack-a-shaq" strategy. Can someone explain this? Lex Cath must play a lot of players to foul that much. I was at the game and it wasn't really what you would call "hack-a-shaq" strategy. LC didn't have an answer for Polson. They did a decent job keeping it out of his hands in the third quarter but he finally started coming up with it and LC couldn't stop him. Polson dribbled through their double teams and they had no other choice but to foul him. The only reason I wouldn't call it "hack-a-shaq" strategy is because they were not intentionally fouling him. The refs were a little inconsistant but it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. I was impressed with Polson and his teammates. Does Polson always play that well? He is by far the best guard I've seen this year.
REH5 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Lexington Catholic usually plays several players. Eleven played tonight. Four fouled out (two starters and two reserves). Two other starters ended up with four fouls. On the other hand all five of the West Jessamine starters ended up with four fouls each. These numbers and the above mentioned 43-55 free throws came from the computer stats crew WL Stats who did the stats for Lexington Catholic tonight.
REH5 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I believe Polson's performance was a record breaker for the state. Someone may want to doublecheck but I believe according to the KHSAA website the previous most free throws attempted was 34 by Steffphon Pettigrew (Elizabethtown) 12-30-2006. The previous most made was 29 (29 of 31) by Brett Meredith (Edmonson County) 2-7 2003. Please verify as I did this in a hurry. Congratulations to Jarrod Polson on a great performance.
